Existing Reservation Question

We've already got a res & several waitlists for Dec. Using 04' banked points & small amount of '05 points, which I'd prefer to bank entirely for use in '06 use year.

Just wondering, can I use transferred points (within the UY rules), in connection with my 04's, instead of my 05' points without cancelling & rebooking the existing res?

I've called MS and gotten 2 different answers (no, and yes, if I cancel & rebook - which would probably mean that I'd lose my place in line/res.)

Anyone have a definitive answer or suggestion on who to contact @ MS?

No. It wouldn't be right to just "substitute" points that were not available to you when the reservation was originally made, if there is now a waitlist for any part of your reservation. If MS were to allow this, it would be a way to get around the booking windows and it would not be fair to anyone who is on the waitlist for those days. If there isn't a waitlist, you could cancel and re book the ressie using any combination of points you want.

FWIW, cancelling and rebooking your existing reservation shouldn't have any effect on your waitlists for other resorts room types/dates.

IMHO, there isn't anyone to contact - both CMs essentially gave you the same answer, which is no, you can't do that.

Don't quite see why you want to transfer points into your current year and go through all that hassle just to bank a few points. If you need more points for 06 why not just transfer the points into your 06 use year?

We didn't book using either the 11 or 7 month window, so I don't see where it matters what year or resort points that we'd use - our own or transferred points. I had hoped to pick up the few extra points we needed for 12/05 trip in order to keep our 06 points intact.

Since we bought a resale with banked 04' points & need to use them by 9/06, the only time available for us to coordinate with a cruise & work restraints was the 12/05 trip. The only resort open that we were interested in took more points than we had banked, resulting in using some 05's that I wanted to save for next trip (family is starting to ask when they get to go too-yikes). I'd rather pay for the transferred points at today's rate, as opposed to whatever 07's might be; but might just have to wait.

Yes, I know we'll probably need to add on soon. I'm holding out for the Contemporary. If it's going to happen, I'll bet they announce something within the next few years, certainly worth waiting for IMHO.

. In that case, I'd tend to agree with you. I have to admit I don't know for sure how the rules work with transferred points & waitlists, but my guess is that the only way to change the points used for an existing resrevaiton is to cancel and rebook. Appears MS is reluctant to do that if there is a waitlist for the original reservation.

OK, that makes sense, I guess. If it were me, I'd just plan to borrow for the next trip, especially since I was planning to add on in the not to distant future

Guess we'll just borrow (if need be) for the next trip. The only problem I forsee is whether the points have to physically be in our account before I book. Guess I'll just have to line up the transferred points ahead of my 11 or 7 month window.

Stupid newbie question: Once I line up a transfer & pay, how long before points "show up" in my account?
