I have seen discussions about all sorts of things onboard the Magic, but I haven't seen anything about exercise equipment or exercise programs.

Are there exercise programs available in the mornings? What about treadmills and other aerobic exercise machines? My wife is into yoga, are there classes for that? I like to walk, and on my last cruise (15 years ago) we did laps on the upper deck as they didn't have any equipment.

Also, IF they have equipment, is there an extra charge for it?

We will be on the 11/2 Magic, 7 day eastern.

Many thanks..... Paul

They do have equipment...there is a photo on my website at www.castawayclub.com
I don't recall if it's the Magic or the Wonder, but they are just about the same anyway. It's neat because the exercise room overlooks the bridge, and there is no extra charge.
There are classes for which you'll need to sign up in advance...I don't think there is yoga tho'. I just recently started taking it at our health club, so I will probably try to do some on my own (if I do it in a public area, people will probably think I'm nuts!).

Fantastic! Thank you. Do you have idea of the hours of the workout area? Can you just go up and do your own thing, or do you have to reserve everything in advance?

Thanks again.... Paul

Paul, the exercise classes require you to sign up and SOMEtimes they have sign-ups for the treadmills, but generally you just show up when the club is open and do your thing. :)

You can also jog on Deck 4 - the only downside is it's a smoking area so it's also the "fog deck" ;) . The Fitness Center hours listed on my latest Navigator says 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.

I recommend working out as the ship pulls away. It is really cool to watch the ship pull away from port while exercising. It is a very nice club. You may want to bring headphones. There are towels there. There are also alot of classes but I didn't try them.

Trishy; As far as jogging on Deck 4, is that anytime as opposed to the walk or jog scheduled activity? I don't like the smoke idea, but I've jogged passed enough stinky exhausts, etc. that I think I can handle it! natt

natt,
Absolutely. Anytime day or night (with the exception of the life boat drill time :p - could you imagine? ) I sometimes like to sit in one of those comfy lounge chairs, with my cd headset and watch the muscular bodies pass me by  - of course, I have a book to look "distracted", but with my dark sunglasses on.... :smooth:

So I guess I know now, that if a see a GUY with dark glasses and a book, I'd better "flex" as I pass! ;) Enough on that - anymore posts about the excerise area? :p natt

I would describe the exercise room as being comparable to the exercise room you'd find at your higher level of business-class hotel. You won't mistake it for the full-service health club you use at home, but it has enough to get by during your cruise.

A word of warning about the jogging path on Deck 4, natt.

My husband and I are avid runners, and he was trying to get longer runs in, as he was training for a marathon. On Deck 4, 4 laps = 1 mile. HOWEVER, unless you go very early, the deck can get crowded -- people walking, playing shuffleboard, etc. And the far forward and aft parts of the track become very narrow (one person wide), so you are frequently saying "Pardon me, excuse me" as you try to manuever around the walkers.

Also, there IS a directional arrow, indicating the direction the runners and walkers are supposed to be going in, but we always ran into (literally!) some people who either didn't know or didn't care about that.

And finally, sometimes parts of that deck are closed off, so you can't go all the way around.

Thanks for the info on the 'Fog Deck'!
I was hoping that maybe the aerobics area overlooked forward.... But does not look like it does. What is the outside Overlook area like, there in front of the spa? You do not have to go thru the spa to access it, right? Is it always open to everyone? I am assuming that there are no chairs, etc. there?

Thanks!
