Exercise pain...ugh!

Hello! This is my first time posting over here. I have finally decided to try to get into shape. I need to lose some weight and I joined a small gym that only has exercise equiptment. It feels good to exercise, but now my muscles hurt so much! Does anyone know how long it takes before it stops hurting so much? Also, how do I deal with the pain? I am so sore.

I have read some of the threads and you are all an inspiration to me.
 
If you warm up and warm down more (like gentle stretching) it should loosen those muscles up a bit. well done for trying anyway and at least if it hurts you know SOMETHINGS happening
 
If you're really sore (from nautilus machines and free weights) then lower the weight resistance....if you're using only 5-10 pounds then do 3 sets of 6 instead of 10 or 12 for the first week. It generally takes about a week for your body to get over the soreness...use over the counter anti-inflammatories and/or Tylenol to help for the first week. Drink plenty of water....those muscles burn right through it. And if you have access to a hot tub...try and jump in after your exercises to keep your muscles warmed up. It's the working out then sitting or not moving right after that makes it worse...doing a treadmill workout after you do nautilus will help keep your muscles warmed...good stretches especially hamstring are a must after working out.

The good news is you're building muscle!!! And that burns fat!!! :)

Thanks so much for the advise. It's been a while since I have used machines. The only comfort is that I know it's working when I hurt.
