We are taking an upcoming seven day eastern Caribbean cruise and I have some questions about the islands.
1. What is the best way to get over to St. John Island so we can do some snorkeling at Trunk Bay? Is it possible to rent life jackets for my kids and wife at Trunk Bay? If we plan on getting off the ship right away, how much time would we have on St. John.

2. While at Castaway Cay is there a place to snorkel and are we permitted to use our own equipment or do we have to rent from Disney? Again is there a place to rent life jackets?

3. While in St. Maarten we are planning on going to the beach right near the drop off for the water taxi and spend some time, can anyone suggest any other activities.

We don't like to do the organized excursions planned by the ship so any suggestions would be helpful.

Yes, there is a place to snorkel and yes, you can use your own equipment.

As far as your other questions are concerned, I have not yet been on the Eastern itinerary...

I am doing this cruise in Jan so I am interested in the same questions.

We have been to Castaway twice. In Aug when we went my 8 year old DD and I snorkled for hours. We had a wonderful time and I liked the idea of the Disney CM out around where we snorkled as neither of us are wonderful swimmers. As it turned out, we really did not need them there....but I still liked the idea.

When we were there last Jan, it was to cold for me to snorkle....but last winter was unusually cold. Hopefully this year it will be better.

When we went to st. john (did the five star snorkle) it was about a 40 min boat ride each way. I am sure there are ferries and taxis to get there , just make sure you get back in time because if you are not on a disney excursion they will leave without you. Trunk bay is just beautiful you will love it!

If you bring your own equipment to castaway cay Disney will provide for free (they insist upon them) life vests for all snorklers. There is a marked snorkle trail

Shopping!! There are great deals in St. Marten!!!!
