Ok I dont want to beat a dead horse here about excursions, but I would like to get some advice/recommendations for the best excursions to do with my 3yr DS?

For PR I figure we can do Old San Juan/fort, and walk around. I have fam there so Im hoping to see them by the port if they can make it. Has anyone done anything else here with a child?

St. Thomas: I have no idea. My DW wants to go to a NICE beach/shop/have fun! What do you think may be the best thing for us here?

CC: well this may be easy, I have no clue but think anything would work here.

I appreciate any suggestions as Im trying to count the money  I for one would venture off just to see whats going by the port, then go back on the ship with my DS and enjoy the ship.

:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: Not long to go now....

For Castaway Cay, drop your DS off at the kids area and go the adult beach, Serenity Bay..Great beach, very relaxing and no kids. The kids area on Castaway Cay is great. They don't get to go to the beach but they have lots of sand play and water play. You might want to take him to the beach for a short while in the morning and then check him in and go to the adult area.

For St. Thomas, the John Island tour is great for families. You get to ride the boat over to St. John, then an open air Taxi around the island with stops at several places, then boat ride back. No time for swimming or beach on this one but fantastic chance to see the scenery. You are back to the Magic by 1:00 or so in time for you and your DS to have a nap while DW shops at the Havensight mall right next to the ship.

If you want beach + shopping, then the St Thomas Beach day would probably work. You do the beach excursion in the morning and are back to the ship around 1:00. Then Club for DS while you and DW go shopping. Only gives you a couple of hours for shopping but that should be enough.

Just some thoughts. Others will probably have suggestions. also.

We cruised with DD3 and DD4 and chose to explore the ports of call on our own.

On St. Maarten we took the water taxi to Great Bay Beach, spent some time on the beach and did a little shopping in town.

On St. Thomas we went to St. John and toured Cruz Bay.

We chose not to book any excursions because there were few they were old enough to do, and we didn't want to be locked into a schedule - knowing how unpredictable kids can be.

A note about St. John: I talked to a family who did the island tour. There are no seat belts on the tour vehicle, and St. John is a "mountainous" National Forest. There are hills that go straight up and the roads are narrow and twisty. The people I spoke to were petrified during on the ride. That being said, if you can get to St. John, do it. It is beautiful.
