Does anyone know what happened if you book an excursion and don't use it? My 8 yr. old wants to go snorkeling ( and I want to pre-booke it) but what if she finds that she will have more fun staying with the Disney activities already planned for her age group and decides she doesn't want to go snorkeling???

If you're planning to snorkel at Castaway Cay, you really don't need to pre-book. We just got off the ship, got settled in our chairs and my 8 yr. old daughter and I rented the equip. and off we went. It was our first time, but we got the hang of it. After 20 min. or so, she was done and ready to do other things.
On our Nassau day, the weather was terrible. Lightning and heavy rain all day. I wondered about the people who booked exursions if they still had to do them or not.

If you book an excursion, and then decide not to do it, you will not normally be getting a refund. most shore excursions are provided by independent contractors. the only way you would get a refund would be if the weather turned nasty and the provider cancelled. At least this has been my experience...

If you pre-book an excursion and decide not to go you will be charged and get no refund. The only other way to get a refund (other than above) is when the destination of the tour is changed by the provider. This happened to us on the Golden Eagle Catamaran excursion. Due to weather conditions they were diverting the snorkeling to Mullet Bay. All people were given the chance to cancel and get a refund at that time. As for snorkeling in Castaway Cay, the $25 price for equipment is a little steep -- the equipment isn't all that great (at least ours wasn't) so if you have your own equipment I'd recommend bringing it.

We bought great equipment at BJ's for $25. It included a snorkel, fins and mask in a nice case. I saw the same exact set in the Land's End catalog for $79.
