Excursions in Cozumel - What's worth the cost?

I wonder how much it costs for just 1 or 2 people to get to the Choco factory and back? Can you pay with US dollars or Pesos? (Is it cheaper to pay with one or the other)?

How do cab tips work there? Do you tip the cabbies?

I'm curious about this as well. The chocolate factory tour sounds right up my alley popcorn::

Salsa & Salsa was fun according to a friend of mine. I took my teenaged boys on the Dune Buggies to Jade caverns and had fun but it is a lot of driving and much relaxing.

has anyone tried Paradise Beach in Cozumel? it is one i am looking at (private not DCL excursion) It looks similar to Playa Mia but much cheaper. I would appreciate hearing about anyones experience there,

We loved Nachi Cocum for a beach day!

Another vote for Nachi Cocum :beach:! We were there in May along with three families from our cruise. It was well worth the $55/person to essentially have a private beach/pool, unlimited drinks and a delicious lunch. Some friends had massages there and raved about them as well as how great the prices were.

We have been there twice and are going again in January. DH doesn't even want to consider another excursion, he loves just sitting on the beach and having the servers come to you. We drank and ate whatever we want and both times spent less than the all-inclusives.

We always go to Chankanaub on our own. Relaxing beach day with snorkeling, iguanas, gardens and a great staff.

We just did the "Secret River" cave excursion in August. I'm not sure if the OP was referring to this. It was my family's favorite excursion of our trip. Where else do you get to swim in caves? What a great experience. This excursion is actually highlighted in the hardcover book left in stateroom.

Completely agree - we went in June and asbolutely loved it. Beautiful beach, but nice pool as well, friendly staff, clean...dolphin and manatee interactions on site if you chose (for less than we paid in Grand Cayman). If you google them online there is a small discount coupon you can take as well. I think the cab ride was $12/$13 each way...

we did the Playa Mia excursion last year and were disappointed.

  • Beach was narrow and not very nice.
  • Beach chairs were old, stained, and rickety
  • Pool was dirty and crowded
  • Toddler pool was nice but a few of the toys were broken and wrapped with caution tape
  • Open barDrinks were terrible (weak rum, lots of syrupy liquers, horrendous wine) - we PAID for some premium drinks which were OK.
  • Food was bad - open air setting allowed flys to have a buffet too :)
  • Too long for us (we had a 3 yr old with us) so had ot pay $17 to get back to port

What we DID enjoy was having some drinks at Margaritaville (I know, how very American of us :) )and then walking down to the local grocery. We spent about $5 USD and bought a bundle of Kinder eggs which my son absolutely loved to open and find the trinket inside (can't get them in the US)

We liked shopping at the liquor stores and local shops.

When we go back, we've decided to rent a car and go explore on our own. Excursions jsut dont seem to be our thing...

We took the 7 day Fantasy Western Caribbean cruise this past July and did the Catamaran snorkel beach party which was so much fun. And inexpensive for what they give you -- I think it was $60 a person. And it lasted for almost the entire time the ship was in Cozumel, so if you want to do some sightseeing or shopping, there may not be enough time with this excursion.

Hubbard53 - Were you able to get to Margaritaville on foot?

yeah, if i remmeber right we had the taxi drop us off near Margaritaville. After that we walked to the market and then back to the port. . .

It was pretty much right there once you got past the port security area. We plan to go back on our Nov 2015 cruise and just spend time there ... they have a free waterpark and snorkling, pretty sure it's adult-oriented though :)

Went to Nachi Cocum and really wanted to like it but had a bad weather day and activities were limited.

We loved our day at Chankanaab park too. We booked the sea lion encounter on their website, which had a discount. The sea lion encounter was amazing and the group was very small(our family + one other person). We rented snorkel gear and spent the rest of the day snorkeling and using their pool, which is very nice.

Here's a link to the dolphin, sea lion, and manatee encounters that they offer:

I'm so glad to hear this! I've been researching excursions for our Easter break cruise and this is one I'd really like to do. Just have to keep my fingers crossed that it's not "sold out" by the time our booking window opens. :-)

My DW and I are casting off for a five-night cruise on the Wonder in November, and will be stopping through Cozumel. We've cruised there before, but never on Disney. On my previous runs through Cozumel, we did the snuba excursion in 2008, and that was pretty good, but left a little to be desired because there just isn't must to see underwater where you do that excursion. Right now, we're really eyeing up the cave exploration one, but at $135/person, I'm in need of a second opinion before committing nearly $300 for what ends up being about 40 or so minutes of a cave tour. Has anyone else ever done the cave excursion? Or is there something else we should strongly consider? Also, I am not good with heights, so zip-lining canopy tours of any sort are not happening. Thanks, and look forward to hearing others' experiences!

Anyone have a review of the Cozumel Atlantis Submarine excursion?
