Excursion and suggestions

I am going on a 7 day Eastern Cruise (first cruise) and wondered what is a good excursion for a family of 4 (2 boys 8 and 16).
Also in October what should we be wearing clothing wise? Shorts/Pants...

For St. Thomas, I HIGHLY recommend the Capt. Nautica excursion.

It is a speed boat ride to 2-3 snorkeling sites, you beat everyone out if you take the am. excursion. The ride is really fun and they are very informative. They have drinks and snacks.

Don't worry if you have never snorkeled. They will teach you. If you are uncomfortable, you can even just float and stick your face (in the mask) in the water to see. They had noodles and kick pads to use as well.

This was a top notch excursion. The snorkeling was FANTASTIC!!!!

This was one of the reasons we wanted to do another Eastern. In fact, we were all scheduled until friends talked us into another date for a double dip western.

OHHHH!!! I have been looking for you, musicgirl! I have been searching for someone high and low to tell me all about Capt. Nautica's excursion. We are doing this Nov 12th Eastern and we are dying to go on this one excursion!

Questions.....
Do you really recommend the am tour vs. the later one? Why? What was involved in getting off the ship that early and how long did it take you?

What could you bring? (water, snacks, backpack, sandels, are towels necessary?)

What couldn't you bring? (food, backpacks, etc.)

If you were tired and wanted to just chill in the boat was that okay? Was there land that you ever were able to ashore at any of the snorkeling sites?

How long before you were back to the ship?

Do they really limit this to only those over 8 years and up? Can you sneak a 6-7 year old on if they are good swimmers?

Were you afraid of sharks at all?

Were the guides kind to children and enthusiastic?
