We have never used the DDP before and I have been trying to do some research about it for our upcoming trip. After reading many threads about how great it is and many threads about how not so great it is I am still unsure if we will use it. I was wondering if there were items on the participating restaurants menu that were excluded from the DDP. I of course know if we order appetizers or alcohol those are extra. But can we order ANYTHING we wanted off the menu?

You can order anything that is on the menu (excluding appys and alcoholic drinks). It looks like it will be awhile before you go and maybe there will be free dining for your time frame or a discount on the room. Look at the menus and decide what you think you will order for TS & CS be sure to include tax and tip on TS. This will give you an idea of what the food would cost if you paid for it. You will get a desert and drink for each of your meals add that into your total. Also add in 1 snack per person per day. If the food you would eat comes out higher than the price of the DDP then it would be worth it to get it. If it doesn't then it won't be worth it to pay for it. It works for some people and not for others.

Pretty much every entree and dessert is included. The only ones that I can think of that have been mentioned as being excluded are the Kitchen Sink dessert at Beaches n Cream and the prix fixe dinner at Flying Fish. The prix fixe menu at any other restaurants that offer it are included in the dining plan.

If an item is "for two" usually two people have to use their credits to get it, but sometimes they'll allow one person to order it.

There are also a few items that have an upcharge if ordered using the DDP. The Feasts at Marrakesh comes to mind and I feel like I've read about one or two other (but I can't remember right now).

Also, regarding the drinks, some of the places only allow a coffee, tea, fountain drink (e.g., Coke product). I know VN does not allow the specialty drinks (like the aqua frescas) to be ordered using the DDP. Likewise, any of the specialty drinks or drinks with souveniers (cups or light up toys) are not included on the DDP. Most of the Disney owned places (like WCC, 50PT) will allow you to order a milkshake for your drink.
