Exchanging to II

Got some questions. Hopefully somebody knows the answers, or can guess?

We've got 160 points to use, and are thinking of exchanging for an Interval Int. week in Hawaii. But a 2br requires 207 points. Is there any way to pay cash (or rent points) to make up the difference? We don't want to borrow since we're going to WDW the following year and will need those points. Any ideas how it could be done?

Also, how many resort choices can you request with II? Just first and second choice, or more?

And last, are the seasons the same as DVC or is there a different seasonal chart for II somewhere?

Thanks for any help you can give!

You can't make it up with cash. You could have points transferred in from another member.

No way to pay the difference you could borrow or have a transfer. 2 BR units are hard to come by in HI and any HI request should be planned at least a full year or more in advance. The 2 BR is actually 270 for many options, 254 for many others. My concern for you is that is sounds like you have current points you want to use. That is a risky venture given the nature of exchanges. If you can bank the points you may want to do so. If you can make do with a 1 BR, you should plan for that and hope for a 2 BR if you match.

II previously had a limit of 64 resort weeks, I don't know if they are still limited to that but suspect they are not. That means you could ask for 1 resort for 64 weeks or 64 resorts for 1 week or any combo. By rule, you must give them 3 choices but for those that don't want at least 3 choices, there are ways around this issue by listing things that either would never match or things that are too far out given the deposit limits of what you list. For HI, you need as many choices as possible to be successful. The problem you get into is that if you list lessor choices, that is almost certainly what you will get.

The seasons are not the same as DVC and vary with each island. And contrary to popular belief, one cannot know for certain what the cost will be until a match is actually found. If you give us your time frame and island choices, we could likely offer more specifics.

Here are some more specifics:

The points are from 2005 and already banked. We have an April use year. So, they have to be used by the end of March 07. (We want to bank our 06 points to use in conjunction with our 07 points for WDW in late 07 or Jan 08).

We were thinking of using these points to take dh's parents to Hawaii sometime between Sept this year (06) and March 07. We'd prefer low season to use less points, but don't know when low season in HI is. We'd need to be able to sleep 6 people, and we could do two 1br's (if that's any easier to come by?) but then of course we're talking more points...

We're not set on any particular island at all. We just have to be able to get FIL over to Pearl Harbor somehow one day is all. Looking at the II choices, some look much better than others, but we really could be quite flexible I think.

Any additional advice?

Sorry for the stupid question, but where are the II choices?? Is there a website that lists them with point needs, etc?

I'd rent them or use them but if you want to request an II week, do so for what you need. You can always rent points or transfer points in later or pay cash for some nights if you do borrow for an exchange.

As for HI for the time you quote, you are way behind but at least you are discussing time that is lower season in HI, esp Sept, Oct, part of Nov and early Dec. If you list the entire time, you will not get Xmas, New years or arly 2007 in all likelihood. HI does not have a lot of 2 BR units and your chances of success go way down if you hold this as a criteria. You may want to stay open on your choices and do a few days cash on Oahu. Good luck.
