Exchanging DL DAS for WDW DAS

Hi all- Planning a trip in Feb and haven't been to WDW since the new card system. We did go to DL a year ago and were given a DAS card for my son. Is it simpler to get at WDW since we already have one to turn in or should I prepare him for having to hear me discuss his issues again?

I'd prepare him just in case they ask some follow up questions, but in general it's pretty quick.

You should be prepared to discuss his needs in requesting the DAS at WDW. I don't believe the computer systems at WDW and DL are connected, so while renewing is fairly simple on the same coast, they will not be able to access the CA file in FL.

Thanks for the info- I hope bringing the DL card makes it a little easier. Are the WDW DAS cards linked to the magic bands or tickets in any way? That would be ideal.

Not currently. It's just a paper card that is completely separate.

I got my first DAS at DL, second one at WDW.

I DID bring my DL DAS to WDW (it was Epcot actually). I think it "helped" in that they did not seem to ask me as many questions...... I do not think they really want to get into one park qualifying a guest and then changing that. But the systems are totally different, and they had to re-enter all his info and take a new photo.

That said, things are evolving with the DAS. We were just back at DL again, 2 weeks ago. And they no longer use the paper DAS. This is understandable, to curb the new abuses they had there, but unfortunate in that it means a new discussion about qualifying each trip. They did explain to me, that they now decided that they WANT to discuss the qualification each time, because some guests qualify on one trip, and then improve and things change, and they no longer need it. (I think many DASers out there are APs, so they do not run into this conversation requirement as often, because I think they get their DAS dated for 6 months?). I was a bit bummed by this though, as I hate the idea of going into some gross detail about my son's needs, every trip, but so be it. His condition will not improve.

All in all, I am very supportive of DAS and think it works very well, I am not meaning to sound like I am a complainer.

I think things are evolving differently at Disneyland because they have so many more locals who are repeat visitors.
There also was more abuse there from what I understand - including things like forging Return Times and stealing stamps after Disney instituted them to help prevent forging. Those happened at WDW too, but not as often as DL

All true, but here is what I was told was happening at DL. Groups of say 6, had 3-4 in the group, EACH with a DAS card for 6 people. Each of the 3 with a DAS card would get a return time for a different ride. They might even also have a WC return time at some rides. So the group would pretty much go from ride to ride with no waiting..... DL took note of this, and reacted.

With the new system at DL, you have no DAS card. The return time is put on each person's PASS, all 6 in the group would have to provide their passes for each ride return time. Thus, even if the group had multiple DAS guests, each pass could only be attached to one ride at a time. This includes WC return times, they are ALSO put on the passes (as far as I could tell). So, no double dipping, except of course for using regular Fast Pass, which they encourage.

It is genius, and blocks this abuse situation pretty effectively. I heard some grumbling about it, too.
