Exchanging Contracts

Wouldn't it be nice if DVD would allow members to "trade" their contracts for a contract at a different home resort (as long as the expiration terms were the same). They sell the first 6 DVC resorts for the same cost, so there really isn't any difference in cost. If a member was unhappy with their home resort, why wouldn't DVC allow them to "trade" their contract for a different home, so long as that member was willing to pay the transfer and recording fees.

Ok, that's my random idea of the day.... :teeth:

What would be the benefit to Disney/DVC? Members can sell and repurchase at any time if they are willing to pay the associated costs. Seems like this would just be an extra cost to Disney for no return.

Are you unhappy with your home resort?

I'd love the idea! I bought VWL because dd was younger and we hadn't really appreciated the whole Epcot/BW area. I'd switch out my VWL for BWV anyday to get that 11 month mark.

The benefit to disney would be the commitment to customer service. The cost to disney could be $0, just charging the DVC member the fees to change ownership.

I do also understand the ability to sell, but I would imagine that there are quite a few members who aren't necessarily happy with their home choice and would prefer to change, but the cost of selling and purchasing new would be prohibitive.

As for me, I'm not unhappy with my home resorts, but I have considered selling my OKW contract to buy at BWV so I could get the booking advantage for our stays in October. However, the detering factor is the cost of selling, then going thru the purchase process and searching for the right resale (or buying direct and paying more)... thus paying a lot more for something that's equal in the eyes of DVC... (aside from the MN fees).

If you really want a differrent resort for the 11 month booking window, there are add-on contracts that you can get. I think Disney considers this to be "customer service" to DVC members.

There would still be a cost to DVC, for instance, let us say they have some BCV points available via ROFR, a Vero Beach person wants to "trade" for those BCV points. Now the sales department has Vero points on hand, a resort that is selling for less resale, and is not getting ROFRed at the same price as BCV, so the sales department traded BCV points for Vero points it really may not need or want, and even if they did need Vero points, they could have gotten them cheaper through ROFR. Unless you think a lot of BCV, BWV and VWL folks want to trade for Vero. Of course the same scenario could apply to almost any resort that sells for less at resale than another.

This post gave me a good belly laugh...... :rotfl2: :lmao: . The first thing that popped into my head was a line of people streaming out of a DVC center with SSR owners wanting to "trade" there contracts for BCV/BWV. :lmao: The idea is nice but it would never work. Like Chuck stated, there is a cost to Disney because all of the resorts are not created equal from a resale price standpoint.

Thanks again for the laughs. This is a good one. :rotfl:

Disclaimer: I own SSR and I'm not unhappy there. I just used SSR as an example. :thumbsup2

But there sure would be a logistics nightmare, as MS would have to deal with reservations made with points on contracts that have since changed hands, or would every reservation made on a such a contract be automatically cancelled?

Plus, assuming that there is such an uneven demand for the 'smaller' resorts, there wouldn't be enough contracts available for trade to make it worthwhile. (Now, if you assume that, 20 years from now when folks get a bit older and the benefit of park location fades and the benefit of part at your doorstep and easy access off-site starts to grow, then you may have an idea ;) )

SSR is a bad example as it not only has a different expiration term, but also has a current sales price different from the other resorts. And to flip your analogy around a little, what about 20 years from now when BCV/BWV members might want to switch to SSR for the extra years?

BTW, I was just having a wishful thinking moment as I considering whether to try and switch around my ressies (and planning for next year). We seem to be leaning more towards BWV (which will likely mean I'll be doing an add-on), but I was thinking it would be nice if I could just switch my OKW for BWV without having to go thru the resale process.

Again, I'm not seriously expecting DVC to do this, was just 'thinking out-loud'! :teeth:

Oh, wouldn't it be nice if there were a "member" exchange program!

There sort of is a member exchange program, not for actual contracts, but you are welcome to exchange ressies with any member...you could make a ressie for them at OKW during your 11 month priority, and they could make one for you at their resort. And you could agree on an approrioate price if there is a difference in the number of points required.

I think that the GV's at value prices, would make your OKW points attractive to someone who owns at BCV/BWV, who may want to have a grand gathering. Give it a try, you certainly are well known on these boards, and do lots to be helpful.

Bobbi :thumbsup2
