I have a lot of American coins left over in my travel purse that would love to cash in for Australian money. Where can I go to do this? Would I need to book in ahead of time at a bank or somewhere? Thanks!

I've worked for two of the big 4 and they don't exchange foreign coins.
An exchange booth might do it, maybe hang onto it until your next trip...

Hmm...have a lot of coins that I don't use ofter over there (way too many 1c! lol). Not sure if I have an exchange place in my town either. Bugger lol

I don't think anyone will change it, but Amex foreign exchanges take it for charity.

I think you are stuck with your coins until your next visit :sad1:.

I always try to get rid of my coins on the last day, or at the airport buying drinks or if I have heaps, I will change them for a note at a store, they usually don't mind and like the change.

Keep them as souveniers.

I dont know about other airlines - but on Qantas they passed an envelope around on the flight from one of the major charities .

i don't think the banks will accept foreign currency but you could always ring around and ask...

we have held on to ours for pressed pennies (using pennies & quarters) and the rest we just dumped in tip jars etc while we were over there.

if you have kids, i guess you could give it to them as 'spending money' for any future trips :)
