Exchanges- New DVC Member Needs Info.

Please tell me more about the exchanges I see posted here. Are you exchanging your points through a timeshare site where you get to pick from resorts all over the world? How does this work exactly? Do I have to book a DVC reservation for a week to "trade" or do they just accept my points? Do I have to give anyone access to my DVC account? How do you choose the resort you want to exchnage for- is there a bochure or a website?

DVC members call Member Services and they handle the exchange requests/point requirements. One of the options is the World Passport collection through Interval International. Here's a link to Interval's site to check out their directory of resorts:

DVC usually sends out a brochure called "Member Getaways." If you look at that paperwork/brochure, it breaks your choices down by color (green is World Passport Collection -Interval International; red is Concierge Collection, etc.)

As far as choosing a resort in the World Passport Collection (Interval), you can check reviews on Trip Advisor (take these with a grain of salt, though), Expedia, Travelocity, etc. You can usually count on the big chains as having good quality resorts - Marriott, Westin, Sheraton, Royal Resorts, etc.

But how many points does a resort need? Nothing ever says anywhere. I dont want to phone up MS and ask for a week somewhere only to be quoted 300 points or something rediculous like that. Do you have a ball park figure for an average resort?

AFAIK, the points will be the same for 2008. In addition to the points, you will pay a $95 fee. The seasons are determined by the destination resort. You can also trade for a studio - call MS for the points needed.

Thanks for this, but eek! 270 points for a week! Nope, stay at DVC if thats the price. Exchanges would have to be worth it and at that price, they most certainly are not. DVC always for me
