If you were to have a personal chef come to your house, and cook you five different dishes for dinner-one meal per night for Monday thru Friday. What dishes would you choose for him/her to make?

No jokes? I am not good at telling jokes, riddles, and that sort of thing. But my daughter took out her joke book yesterday, and kept going on with jokes.

What sort of decoration do you have at the top of your Christmas tree? Angel, star, other....?

Tell us your most funniest joke.
I'm not good at telling jokes or remembering them.

I have a small tree this year, the smallest I've ever had. I don't have to put it together or take it apart. :cool1: I can just put a 13 gallon trash bag over it and stick it in the closet. I'm not sure what will be at the top of it this year.

When do you start your Christmas baking, and what are you planning on making this year? Feel free to share any recipes.

If I do any, it's during the week before Christmas. Usuallyl it's the Sugar/Spice Pecans for the neighbors. Every now and then I'll mix it up and make some easy candy but mostly it's the pecans.

1 lb. pecans
3/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 cup sugar
1 egg white
1 tbsp. water

Beat egg white and water until frothy (not stiff). Stir in sugar, salt & cinnamon. Add pecans and stir well until pecans are completely coated. Spread the pecans on a large baking sheet and bake at 200 degrees for 45 minutes stirring every 15 minutes. Remove from oven when dry and toasty. When cool, store in airtight container.

I usually make a lot of cookies and some candy the week leading up to Christmas. Does anyone here freeze cookies? How long do they stay good in the freezer? Do all cookies freeze well? :confused3

Do you think I could use another type of nut other than pecan? Pecans are not so avaliable here.

I have never froze cookies, but read somewhere that you are not able to freeze all cookies.

I usually make cookies, and such the week of Christmas, but have been baking less cookies over the years. I used to stay up till the early mornings baking, and it made me so tired. This year, I will be baking a bunch of bundt cakes as gifts.

I don't know. Why not give it a try. The nuts are the most expensive part of the recipe. If you do, let me know how they turn out.

I remember making sugared walnuts once, so might try to do that with your recipe.

Hi everyone. :) Patsy asked me to be the guest poster for QOTD for a few days. Here is my question for today:

Do you get up early on Black Friday to go shopping? Will you be going out on Thanksgiving evening to shop, now that more and more stores are opening late on Turkey day?

I went shopping once on Black Friday. To me, it wasn't worth getting up at 4:00 a.m. I also didn't go in with a plan, so maybe if I had a list of what I wanted to buy, it would have worked out better. I have no plans to go out again in the wee hours of Black Friday, but may venture out later in the day.

Thank you Monica!

I dragged my husband last year to our first Black Friday sale, and we will not be doing it again. He will be working, and I do not like crowds, and waiting, so I will be sleeping in my warm bed.

I feel the same way as the both of you. I went last year for the first time and couldn't believe the lines at Target. There's nothing out there that's such a good deal that I'm willing to stand in line for hours just to buy.

I did go out two years ago about 10:00 am to Belks and picked up a black wool coat for James. It's one of those that are long, about calf length, that he had expressed a desire for. It was in and out by that time.

If I see something in the Black Friday ads, I might go look later in the day. I usually do my grocery shopping that morning. Everyone is at the mall/stores shopping for those good deals.
