Exchange rate is a little better, any predictions?

I've decided 1.56 is my cut off 2Tiggies - so I'm waiting patiently for our local TA to sell that rate (missed out yesterday)! :rotfl2: I know, in the grand scheme of things, it's pennies (or cents!), but it's human nature to want the best deal! Either that, or it will get so darn close to our holiday I'll have to exchange it for whatever they offer, or just change a smaller amount and use my CC over there. I checked Halifax CC and their rate yesterday was 1.58! Not sure on today but it will have dipped a bit.

It's all part and parcel of the holiday fun .

Fair enough :)
I was thinking more in terms of alleviating the anxiety of watching (and the risk that it drops further). Although for some that is part of the thrill :D I hope you get a good rate.

Check your home insurance, too - I don't know many that would cover £1000 in cash lying around for a while before the trip, regardless of the currency!
We never use anything but a credit card - cheapest and easiest, just pay it off when you get back. No going to banks, travel agents, working out how much you need to take with you etc.
We brought most of the (small amount of) cash we took with us home again this time. We do try and spend some occasionally to get singles for tips etc. (especially since US$ singles are very useful outside of the USA for tips too).

I need to crack open our terramundi pot - not sure when to do that though! I was hoping to use the bulk of it towards the £1000 cash I'm planning on getting. I am hoping I'm not disappointed when we open it - it's been a fair slog to fill it, partly because we've been saving £2 coins! I think if I were to do one again, I'd go for £1 coins - yes, I know you won't fit as much in, but I think we'd save more as £1 are more readily available. You can't see in that well, but I think we are just about half way with it! :rolleyes1

My terrimundi pot seemed to be about 3/4 full, also with £2 coins and it had £776 in it. Good luck!

PS. You don't have to hit it hard to break it. I went at mine a bit heavy handed with the rolling pin and made a right mess!!!!

My local TA is specific to our area - a small independent but always offers some of the best rates for currency. Alas, I rang them this morning and their rate is now 1.5499 so not as good. I think next time it hits 1.56 I just have to bite the bullet!

We are taking £1,000 cash (that is between the four of us so we are covered for insurance - I've checked!), the rest will be Halifax credit card (shopping etc). I wanted to pay for fuel with cash (I just don't trust to use our card after hearing so many stories about cloning at garages - I know it can happen in shops too but I just feel uncomfortable), tolls, our grocery shop, our Wishes cruise and the girls' BBB makeovers - there won't be much left after that!! So, the remainder will be on the CC and paid off on return.

Would you not be better with just paying for everything on the card and just taking a small amount of cash?

We have had far better rates recently on our card than we ever could get for cash exchange. The dollar rate isn't that volatile really so unless it takes a dip during your trip you will come off better.

scooby - I'll bare that in mind! I can't see there being as much as yours, but I can dream!!

Elise - I know what you are saying but we want to pay cash for the things mentioned above so, that will be around the £1000 mark. All other spending/shopping will go on the CC which will give us a better rate.

We took the plunge and topped up our Fairfx card and ordered cash at 1.54 today. Been slowly dropping down again this week so thought I should as it's still better then it's been for quite a while. Just not going to look anymore in case it improves again ;):rolleyes1
