Thomas Exchange Global is up to $1.82 to the £. I am feeling mighty tempted. But I also want to wait at the same time.... This drives me crazy.

I'm the same. I'm getting some more in the morning if it's still up. Fairfx is $1.8325!

I went in the post off ice yesterday and got 174.50:scared1: Luckily only changed £20.Is there a minimum you can put on a fairfax card and what happens if the rate goes up? Do you still top up on the same card or do you have to use another?I presume you get the rate that you top up with.Tempted to get one but worried as never used one.Do you get charged extra for using it or is it like a gift card where they simply deduct the amout you have spent. Not using it for food just in disney and universal for spending money. One more thing can both my husband and I have one for the same account.Sorry for all the questions:cutie:

well if congress screws up with the bailout, the dollar will weaken further...
and considering what idiots they are, they probably will...

Reuters is saying this morning that it really won't rise much further due to the really quite poor underlying state of the UK Economy.

If I had the money I'd buy some from Crown Currency Exchange for May next year at 1.85 but haven't so looks like I'm gambling on a stable 2009.

I don't think it will hit 2 again, the US is further into their debt discovery phase than we are and at least they still manufacture goods and have more farms than golf courses etc unlike the UK. I'd imagine as we hit the bottom of the trough, the US will be climbing out with a new president to raise a bit of hope in their economy. We'll still have the uncertainty of choosing between two muppets until 2010.

i see there's an optimist in our midst....

it's not so clear to me..

one thing is for sure...

the day after the election, one half of america will be hopeful, the other half will be fearful....doesn't matter which guy is elected....the same will be true - just opposite halves...

Not so much an optimist but I think the majority of the US undisclosed debt is out now, the stigma for large companies to admit they messed up has gone with the largest financial institutions all caving. It started with the write downs but they were obvisouly the tip of the iceberg.

Yes there are problems with both of our countries like the majority of our economy being built around the actions of a tiny percentage of greedy individuals rather than good old manufacturing but at the end of the day, America can revert to a self supporting economy, you have oil, you have sufficient food production and I'd imagine you have the resources to manufacture whatever is needed for sustaining the population.

I doubt times will get that bad but it puts it into perspective that the UK could not even feed it's population any more which I think is alarming.

I'm no expert but trying to read what I can when I can and it looks to me like the instability of an unknown political future can be as big an economic problem as real problems such as oil prices etc.
