Excessive Room Checks?

This past summer was my first experience with what I’d say is an “excessive room check.” Prior to that, we had no issues. However…

I tested positive for COVID in the afternoon on the 2nd to last full day of the trip. On the last full day, I stayed in bed. I wasn’t feeling completely horrible but was tired and stuffy. We were staying CL at CR and my husband went to the concierge desk to decline housekeeping. They came by anyway and I said I had Covid and didn’t want housekeeping. Then, they called. I again said I had Covid and did not want housekeeping. THEN, the housekeeping manager came up and insisted on doing trash & towel service despite me informing her of my prior interactions with housekeeping and that I had Covid. Also, some guys from IT (?) came and said they needed to pull some kind of cable out of a closet (I’m not sure, I was just annoyed at that point). They said it would only take a few seconds, which it did. But that was 4 disturbances that day after staff had been informed that I wasn’t feeling well.

Long story short, having a communicable disease won’t even keep them out of your room!!!

We stayed at the Beach Club in December 2023, and not once were we bothered or did anyone knock or come in while we were in our room. We are NOT early risers, and some days didn’t leave the room until 11am or noon. Housekeeping came while we were out, and if security came, that was also while we were out. We will at the Poly in a few months so I’m interested to see if we will get any checks while in the room.

We visited last week. On Monday, we were in the room when housekeeping visited (11:00 am-ish?), but not again until later in the week. On one day the trash was not collected, but it was on the following day. On Thursday housekeeping arrived around 4:00; trash was collected from the kitchen and, at my request, the bathroom. We checked out early Friday morning.

This was my one annoyance on our CL stay at CSR last week. I was traveling with my mother, who is in her early 70s. Most days, we would take an afternoon break back at the resort, and often housekeeping had not yet serviced our room when we got back for our break. We would put out the room occupied sign, only to have them then call and wake us up. The first time this happened, they mentioned they needed to do a security check, asked what would be a good time, and said they would come around 6 pm, when we were going to be at dinner. Instead, between 4 - 4:30, someone knocked and then tried to enter the room (luckily I had the latch on). Another day, housekeeping called, we had a similar conversation, and someone else from housekeeping called just a moment later & I had to repeat that we were napping.

They should just take the room occupied signs away if they're going to disregard them anyway. If we put the signs out it's because we're resting, and a phone call saying "we noticed your room occupied sign is out" is no less annoying than someone knocking on the door.

I usually disconnect the phone in every hotel room I stay in so I don’t have that problem. (And yes, I do reconnect it before checking out).

The room occupied sign was never left on when the room was empty?

I usually find the phone has been unplugged half the time as I check into my room and go over all the outlets and which ones work. (Those night stand usb ports are garbage. I bring my own usb power bank.)

No - we put it out at bedtime, removed it when we left in the morning, put it out when we were taking our afternoon break, and took it down again when we went back out. One morning I almost forgot to remove it, but realized it as we were walking down the hall & went back.

I tend to enjoy the parks later in the late mornings and evenings right up to when it all shuts down and walk on out before catching the bus or monorail. So that means I dont get up early and am a late riser with the 'do not disturb' out. I have gotten the occasional call about when house services can come by and I give a time when I know I will already be out. They never had an issue with that.

One day I did stay in bed with a cold I likely picked up after getting drenched head to foot by the river raft run. Was in just the wrong seat and it hit the water just 'right'. Didnt have a poncho at that time but didnt think I would get *that* wet being the first time I was on it. Now I know better. That morning I talked to the person on the phone who called and explained that I wasnt feeling well and staying in the room. So long as they could come by the next morning after a certain time for the security check it was cool.

The first line on the sign states that they still reserve the right to enter your room, even if the sign is out.

Today is our last day. We planned to relax most of the day. We were out for about two hours midday, returning to take a rest. DH had crawled into bed to take a nap and I was in the bathroom when the dreaded door knock came. Thankfully DH answered the door. The man left never coming in. I was livid and did call to air my grievances. It may have soured our desire to add on. We were seriously ticked off to be disturbed for no reason in the last hours of our vacation.

Perhaps in the past there have been too many trashed rooms especially in the expensive resorts.
