Exceptions to age groups

Does DCL make any exceptions to their age groups so that siblings can be together?

It depends on the kids and the difference in age. You should speak with the Club/Lab as soon as you board and register the kids to discuss it. Often they will talk to the kids and see whether grouping them is appropriate. They will accomodate you as well as they can, while keeping the best interests of the clubs and other kids in mind.

The kids will be 7 & 9 when we go. The 7yr old does everything the 9 yr. old does and then some. I'm sure he would fit in just fine, but I would hate to get there and have them be split up. They do everything together and might not want to go at all.
That would be fine under normal circumstances (we do everything as a family), but this particular trip is our 10 yr anniversary cruise and we would like a little bit of "alone" time.

I'm sure there have been other families in a similar situation. I just didn't know if they are firm with their divisions or if there is room for negotiations.

With a 7 and 9 year old, there is definitely room for negotiations! I couched my last answer a bit in case your kids were, say, 4 and 14.

Talk to the counselors and they will likely work things out for you.

In September we moved my 10 year old grandson down into the 8-9 group so he could be with his 9 y.o. cousin.

My 7 y.o. granddaughter did just fine on her own in the Oceaneer Club ... the boys were across the hall in the Oceaneer Lab.

Honestly I think they would have preferred to be in the club with her as they thought the club activities look like more fun.

Both the lab and the club have plenty of activites to keep the kids happy and busy. Although my gang seemed to enjoy the late nights best ... fun time ... crafts, video games, internet games in the lab ... movies or dress up in the club.

DGD insisted on going to the club imediately after breakfast and I could hardly drag her out of there at 11PM ... both her mom and I would check on her every couple of hours but the moment she saw one of us she yell "go away I'm fine!"

I asked DCL and they told me that they would move the older one down but not the younger one up unless their birthday was in 1 month. My kids are all 12 months apart and my son will not be with his sisters. My one daughter wants to do both, but I dont know if that is possible

Sorry, but for security reasons you have to decide which group your child will be in and they have to stay in that group. No flip/floping.

For everyone, discuss your situation with the counselors. They have LOTS of experience with kids and can probably recommend the placement that will work best for both you AND your kids.

About the "alone" time. I'm going to steal a suggestion from kcashner who's family has a rule that the kids must participate in at least ONE activity in the Club/Lab each day to give the parents some adult time. That has always sounded like a very reasonable solution to me. Let the kids review the Kids Navigators so they can choose an activity time that thye like, but they have to participate at least once a day. After all it's YOUR vacation also.
