EXCELLENT Rate for Hertz on southwest.com!

jenjersnap

thanks for your reply .....that makes sense now since i am getting 184 for 7 days with national and 118 with hertz for our travel in september using similar codes that you did except 20$ off instead of upgrade with national since we usually get full size anyhow when we use EA

thus our difference was 60 ....not enough to make me want to stick with national yet....

Wow... thanks for the info! I had reserved a 5 day rental thru National for about $114 after taxes - it would have been a lot more to rent for 7 days. This gives me 7 days for $118 with taxes (using SOUTH and the two codes in the Entertainment Book). It also means I won't have to deal with catching a ride to the CCC on our Typhoon Lagoon day... and we can perhaps go out to dinner at another resort.

-Is there such thing as a free 'downgrade'? I'm not sure I need such a large car.

-any penalties for cancelling?

-where do we go, if it is not in the terminal. Is there a counter in airport or do we just wait for shuttle?

- I already requested Magical Express. Would they still take our bags if I don't ride the bus? I'm traveling with my three kids, and may run out of hands for pulling luggage.

:thanks:

Carolc,
There is no counter at MCO. Go to the Ground Transportation Level and look for the big Hertz bus (if you don't see one, look for the woman or man in the Gold shirt, the bus will be there soon)

Once you get to Hertz, if you aren't gold you get off at the second bus stop. When you get to the counter ask them what type of car they are giving you. If it's too big you can "downgrade" for free if they have cars. However, keep in mind that a rental car company full size might not be as big as you think it is so you may not need to. I have a full size Hyundai from Hertz right now. It's not a huge car. With three kids I think you need a fullsize!

If you do NOT get on the bus, your luggage does not go to Disney. My suggestion is to get a skycap to help you take the luggage to the Hertz bus. At the Hertz location they have those big silver luggage carts you can use. (The bus drivers usually help you unload too!) If you have two adults, what I suggest you do is once you get to Hertz, one of you just stay with the luggage while adult two goes to get the car, they have a location you can drive right up to and load. Very easy.

Thanks, CarolA!

No adult 2 on this trip... I'm braving a solo trip with the kids w/o DH. (yep, call me nuts... ). The kids can watch the luggage if it's right outside the Hertz building - is that what you mean? I am only allowing us to bring one suitcase each (plus carry on), so all kids can manage their own. But I am bringing a stroller that will require one extra hand. But maybe I can unfold it an put the smallest kid's suitcase on it.

Thanks for your tips! I can't wait!

Yes, you can leave the luggage RIGHT outside the Hertz building. It's a big glass building so you can see out to see what they are doing, I just wasn't sure if they were little kids or not. (I know you can do this, my father hated to travel. My mother dragged us all over the place solo! Now she's a single woman who in the last year has gone to Spain and Peru solo outside the US, I can't keep up with her domestic travels!)

Yeah, thankfully they know not to wander off. The little one may come in with me because she's a momma's girl - but the other two should be fine watching the stuff. I'm probably also nuts for buying a ($20) stroller for a 7 year old! She's a little big, but I want to save her feet as much as possible.... and I need a place to hang all our gear while in the parks!! I don't know where I will put it when the kids are too big. ;)

Oh, no problem cancelling the Hertz ressie if necessary, right?

Thanks again, Carol!

I remember when I made my reesie that I needed to give 24 hours if I had to cancel. I have never had a problem cancelling Hertz (for National ;) ) in the past.
