Hi there. Pro photographer here. Not going to read through all the comments here but I will say a few things...

Both photographs are taken in manual mode, not auto. The Disney photographers are using their camera in auto (meaning they click the pic and nothing more). Auto means you are adjusting your ISO, Shutter Speed, Aperture (depth of field) and other things.

Also both pictures are not post processed (meaning made blurry in photoshop) they were done in camera. Meaning the photographer used a wide aperture.

No way is there going to be a Disney photographer that can take that style of photograph.

Hire a pro photographer if you want images like that taken in Disney.

The op came back and posted later in the thread that she did hire a professional.

That's crazy, then how is anyone ever suppose to be able to have their WDW vacation photos printed or made into calendars, or on a mug, etc... if they won't print things that have a Mickey on it?
:confused3 (I'm not saying I do not believe that happened to you, I just don't understand it.) I've never gotten anything done at either place.
I've had lots of issues with my local Walmart not wanting to print any pics I've taken with obvious Disney icons (like the castle) or characters in them. They lost 100% of my photo business; I use Costco or Shutterfly now.

Wow. I use shutterfly for all my books and photos, and knock wood, I've never had a problem. Hope I don't start. I've made 6 Disney photo books, mugs & a travel mug, as well as many photos.

Yep, I've made many Shutterfly products with my Disney photos without a hitch. Waiting for my new 11x14 Alaska book (not Disney) to arrive hopefully tomorrow!!!

I've not had any issues with online photography printers printing pictures, even with obvious Disney icons in them. However, for my save the dates (post cards), Staples had a better price than online ... they are apparently very strict about the copyrights, even if it's a logo on a shirt. Luckily 10 minutes in photoshop was all I needed to fix it.

There was a funny book written by an ex Photopass photographer. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone that wants to keep the illusion of a perfect Magical WDW. It is a little raunchy.

You've piqued my interest. Can you tell me the name of the author or book?

In my opinion....... the Photopass Photographers are extremely amateur!! The stand there and take very basic shots of the castle, Tree of Life, Tower of Terror..... or whatever else they photograph. They have cheap cameras (compared to any professional). And Disney makes a boat load of cash off of people for pictures that could be better done with a point a shoot. You might get lucky and find a photographer that actually does a good job..... but they are few and far between.

Not to drag one specific point out here, but since when did cheap camera equal amateur? Or vis versa? Professionals only buy gear that will make them money and give them a competitive edge - this often means high end equipment, as it's designed to be more flexible, higher in quality, have more accessible controls, and generally make their life easier, but there are plenty of pros who make their living off of pictures taken with anything from a mid to high end point and shoot to entry level DSLRs with some pretty basic lenses; I've seen pros even using Nikon 1 gear!

On the flipside, I know amateurs who have multiple D4, D800 and F6 bodies and a stable of exotic telephoto lenses, with easily $100k sunk into photographic equipment, and yet have never made a dime from it. I don't have even one tenth of that invested in photography, and yet I've gone to locations with my camera where I had better equipment than the hired professional at the same location - and I'm strictly amateur.

The idea that you need an expensive camera to take good pictures is just silly. To blur out the backgrounds as much as in the example photos, I can do with less than $500 invested in gear - an APS-C sensor and an inexpensive prime lens, and I can even do it in P* (automatic) mode. Heck, I can get darn close with a 55-200 kit lens!

What you need is someone who is skilled enough to make their camera do what they want it to, and that comes irrespective of the price of the camera. That's what makes a pro, not the gear.

Can we talk about what the real issue will be? Trying to get that embroidered on the back of the hats?

They only embroider names

I wanted "Madame" (I'm a French teacher) on mine and they refused, yet I've seen others that have had other things on them. If I buy a new set of ears, I'm going to try again. If not, I won't bother embroidering anything at all on it.

I believe it is called Cast member confidential by Chris Mitchell.

Yep. And if what he says is true, Disney CMs are generally just a big bunch of over-sexed booze heads and druggies, getting drunk and high and having intimate relations all over WDW. Who don't know anything about photography or cameras in general.

So I just got a call that Chapman got a letter this week from Disney stating he is no longer allowed to shoot in the parks and if he continues he will be banned. :sad2:
Anyone else I can contact who can shoot in MK?!

That stinks. :( I was wondering about that since I've always read that you're not allowed to bring a professional photographer in to shoot.

There was a post recently by someone else here saying that a few select area photographers had been given the go ahead by Disney to do this on a limited basis. I don't remember the thread now. It seems Disney has changed their mind on that. I'm sorry, op :(

Area photographers are still allowed to do resort photo shoots as they always have been. Our two shoots were a poly/GF mix and then Boardwalk/yacht and beach club. Both were awesome! There are resorts where you can get mk views in the shot, so maybe that's an option?

Or maybe ask here on the photography board. Maybe a local with the camera/ability would be willing to take the shot for you. I would if I were local :)
