EWWWWWW Today Show segment...selling used underwear!

I was totally appalled when seeing the undergarment report today, reason being I worked in retail for almost 25 years and we never took back used/worn garments, in fact when undergarments, panties bras and bathing suits were sold the cashiers had to tell the customer they were not returnable. Now there was the ocasional customer who did try to return such items and at the discretion of the manager sometimes were given credit and or cash back but even if the garment still had its tags on we right in front of the customer took out the sizzors and cut the garment up then recorded it into our disposition log (documented loss for inventory purposes), then threw the destroyed garment into the trash. I can not tell you how many times the customer would ask why we did that to the garment , when they had already been told we could not resell the items.I worked at two nationally known companies, Lerners and Ames and just can not believe these high level stores practice restocking used returned items.:confused3

Even though some of us buy our panties in "sealed" packages, someone or something had to touch those panties in order to get them in the "sealed" packages :scratchin ... so I think the best bet is to always wash your panties before you wear them ... but it's just my opinion :) ...

While I don't disagree with you that everything should be washed before it is worn, at least the body parts used to place the things in sealed packages are the workers hands not...........well.........other body parts that came into contact with used, worn underwear. :scared1:

I had to return an extra DVD to Target once and happened to be behind a woman who was trying to return underwear. Apparently, she bought them and washed them before wearing, but they were cheaply made so they fell apart. The associate would not accept them stating that they didn't accept undergarments for return or exchange. I understood her point; I'd be upset if I paid $5 for a pair of panties and they shredded in the wash, but I was also happy that Target wouldn't accept them.

True, however, who knows what germs or whatever are on their hands  ... I still say the best bet is to just wash them before wearing :)

I saw this! Eww! The former manager of VS saying that they would 'hang the smelly used ones out to deodorize!' :scared1:

I did not see the show today but I will say this about VS...at XMAS time I bought 2 nightgowns from VS. They gave me a free pair of panties in this cupcake packaging.
When I returned home, I was looking at the nightgowns and realized these were not the ones my DSis wanted.
Several days later I decided to return the nightgowns to VS. The clerk looked at me and said that I needed to return the cupcake as well.
I was  I said "are you kidding me" .. I had not worn them but I was shocked they wanted the panties back.
I informed the clerk that I did not ask for this cupcake to begin with as the VS clerk just threw it in my bag BUT that I was SHOCKED she wanted them BACK. Soooo....now they need a Manager to approve my return of the nightgowns AS I DID NOT HAVE THE CUPCAKE..... Are you kdding me VS??? :headache:

I am not surprised that they would "hang the smelly ones to deodorize them" at all.

Ewww...

Makes me glad I buy my undies packaged and sold by Hanes. And I make sure the package hasn't been opened.

Most places won't take back clothing after it's been washed. If they shredded after one wash then the complaint should be directed at the manufacturer rather than the store.

i was returning clothing to target and the guy SMELLED them. he was smelling the butt/crotch of a pair of shorts. he said if they had been worn and washed he would smell the soap. i said, ok and if they had been worn, but NOT washed what would you be smelling???

 That is NASTY! Maybe he likes the smell of dirty butt. He should post here on that "I love the smell of...." board.:rolleyes1

when trying things on the protective pad that is in the crotch, isn't clean after someone else has tried the same item on but not purchased it.

There should be a system for swimsuits and other underwear that replaces the protective pad once you have tried the item on......

Thats gross to think about also...

Exactly why I try on swimsuits with my panties on.

I remember some stores used to have little disposable panties to use, but I never saw the point...wouldn't they just get all balled up? :confused3At least your own panties fit.

I bought some VS undies a couple of years ago that ripped in the first wash. My store would not take them back but did give me a number for customer service. I have been getting coupons fro free ones ever since.

Why oh why did I open this thread???

Although, I am a little miffed now. When I recently bought 2 bras at VS, they told me that they could NOT be returned once the sales tag had been removed. Silly me only tried on one in the store. Got the second one home just in time to see I had gotten the wrong type....but I didn't realize this until AFTER I had torn the tag off. So, I never tried to take it back. I just chalked it up to an expensive lesson to learn.

But....if they take back used underwear (can't even get that thought out of my mind) and put them right back on the shelves, why won't they take back a bra once the tag has been removed (yet never worn??). :confused3

I'll join the group that is glad we buy our underwear in sealed packages!

I've never cared about "fancy" panties. I go for comfort! Nylon briefs (can't stand bikini type or even worse, thongs!) with a cotton liner. :)

And even those get washed before I wear them. All new clothes for myself and DH get washed before we wear them. I don't like that "new clothes" smell, and you never know who has tried them on before we bought them.

I mentioned this to DH after I saw it this morning and he shrugged and said "Big deal. Guys put on used underwear every day.":lmao:
