The today show guy and team went to an upscale mall and bought several pairs of panties/bathing suits at some popular stores including Macy's and Victoria Secrets to see if they would take them back after the tag and the panty liner was removed. They did and seemed like most put them back out on the floor right away for sale.

They rebought the same panties and stained the panty with rubbing alcohol and then returned them yet again with the stains and they were retagged and put back on the floor for sale.

ewww is right! Luckily, I'm not fancy and buy my undies in a sealed package of 6. And I wash them before I wear them...swim suits need to have the protective liner before I will even try them on. They get washed, too.

It isn't against health codes to take them back, but I am sure it is against them to resell. I used to work at KMart at the service desk and a pencil would be used to take returned underwear out of the customers bag. You wouldn't believe the condition some of them were in. Refund, yes..resell, NO!

I'm not a fancy girl either and usually just buy the ones in the sealed package too. Now I guess there is more than just a cost saving benefit with those!
I can't even imagine walking into Victoria Secret and paying their crazy prices for used underwear!!!

There is no doubt that is completely gross. I've never bought panties that could be returned before, though. All our stores here will tell you when you buy them that it's a final sale.

Of course, I also can't imagine buying panties and not washing them. Jeans, okay. Panties, eww! Even if they aren't tried on or used, think of the hands that could have touched them...

i used to work at gymboree. and we would mark "out of stock" any returned items that had been worn. and that's just kids' clothing!

Even though some of us buy our panties in "sealed" packages, someone or something had to touch those panties in order to get them in the "sealed" packages ... so I think the best bet is to always wash your panties before you wear them ... but it's just my opinion ...

Just because something from Mail order comes in a sealed package does not mean that it is not used. My Mother used to work for a large mail order/womens clothing catalog company, and things that were returned were routinely repackaged and sent back out. People can return used things to mail order companies too. Her busiest time of the year was right after the Kentucky Derby every year. People would buy those fancy hats and return them right after they wore them to the Derby. My Mom worked in returns and had to take them back and send them back to repackaging all the time!

Oh, believe me, ALL my clothes,but especially my panties are washed thoroughly(panties in hot water)before any are worn. I am extremely obsessive about cleanliness and germs and the thought of anyone touching my under garments disgusts me, let alone having them USED before me
