I so didn't need to know that much about her life story. It's one thing to say that abuse/inappropriate things happened, which is sad enough, but the detailed specifics could have been left unsaid.

I felt much the same way when I read that Melissa Etheridge felt the need to tell the whole world that she was sexually abused by her sister. That was about the same time that my interest in her music decreased drastically. I just don't want to know that much detail about the lives of most of the people on the planet, celebs and/or has been celebs included. Maggie

And while I agree that it's a totally "ick" thing to share, I can't say that I judge her for it or would be less willing to enjoy her work as an actress. I don't think I'll read her book, but I probably wouldn't have anyway.

I've done enough things in my life that other people would find completely disgusting (like eating liver, or escargot for very mild examples . . . ) that I don't think I'm qualified to cast stones at McKenzie Phillips for the things that she's done.

How bad is it that when I heard this on the radio this morning, the first thing that came to mind was "Well, I've heard of being into 'daddies' before, but THIS is ridiculous!"

I don't really get announcing it publicly, either. Tell your therapist, tell your family and close friends. Splashing it on my home page is extreme. I don't need to know this, and cathartic or not, show a little restraint!

It is SO gross and SO incomprehensible I can't imagine why she felt it was appropriate to announce it. Isn't her dad DEAD? Not like the negative publicity is going to bother him!
