Ewwww...Dog eating cat litter!

I finally had to put up a baby gate on the litter area so kitty can get in and out but dogs can't.

Grossssssssss!

Yep..that's what we have at our house .......I don't mind them munching on the horse poop for some reason, but the litter box snacks make me wanna barf...

Cat cookies!!!!

My first dog never did this. Then we got the monster:love: . He always tries and now the good dog does it too!!:lmao:

no, seriously, in my house that would qualify as a "terminal" condition
I feel sorry for the dog you get that does this (or hopefully you don't have any cats to "tempt" your dog(s)). I've had 5 dogs in my lifetime and they've ALL done this.

We handled it by putting a "child gate" across the door to the room the litter box is in at our last house and had a dutch door (one of those doors where the lower half closes/opens separately from the top half) installed on the room where we keep the litter box in this house. We close the lower half and leave the upper half open. The cats jump over the lower half but the dog can't get in because she can't jump that high (or at least doesn't have enough desire to do so). This works fine except for when the cats are too young or too old to make the jump.

Our first golden was our biggest culpret. We had no place to block it when we lived in a condo so we put the box in the closet and rigged a hook and eye that the cat could go through the opening but not the dog. Well, she tried and got her head stuck one morning about 4 am and it sounded like the house was coming down. Stupid dog.

I agree that it is nearly impossible to stop them. Current dog has munched a few times but not often. He is on vitamins and omega 3 fatty acids too. :confused3

Dogs are so dumb they will eat their own poo if you don't watch them. Just dumb stupid creatures that we love to pieces.

Dogs do this when not getting enough of certain proteins and minerals in their diet...you may want to check what your dog is eating, try changing foods, or adding a supplement and this should stop it.

You know...I really don't think that's the case. I think they are just gross and like it!!

We have a covered litter box and we keep it backwards on the floor of the utility closet, with the closet door opened just enough the cat can get in. The dog is only about 15 lbs, so we had to turn it backwards just in case he got the door open a little wider - he can't squeeze around to the back like the cat can.

A friend of mine calls litter-coated cat poop "doggie granola bars." Ewww!

We don't purposely let our dog eat out of the litter box, but she has on occasion gotten in there and chowed down. We have a new hook-and-eye combo on the door now that's big enough so the cat can slip through the doorway but too small for the dog (made for a gate but works perfectly for holding the door open just 6 inches).

Our 7 lb. dynamo, Lucy, used to frequent the kitty cafe UNTIL we started using a storage tub as the litter box. There is no way aforementioned dynamo can jump in there...PLUS kitty doesn't track as much litter. It cost a whopping $4.96 plus tax at WalMart.
