So we go to breakfast out this morning and for the sake of this place's rep I'll leave out names. We order our meals and along with the hot drinks order a glass of ice water as well.

I take a sip of mine and think it tastes a bit funny, I think maybe it's just me and take another sip this time I know something is not right. I mention it to the others who ask what it tastes like and the only thing I could compare it to was it tasted like B.O smells. :guilty:

My Mom takes a sip and spits it out. Smells hers and gags. We call over the waitress we tell her the water is yucky and we do not want it, coffee is fine. She tells us that it must be because the cook has been using the same knife for just about everything they prep the night before, including the onions and lemons. Ok now I know what I was tasting in my water. YUCK!

The manager is very nice, says he is sorry and will talk to the cook. So enough, it's all good, we enjoy the rest of the meal. Then the waitress comes back and offers us water again, we decline saying it was a big turn off the first time, no thanks. She replies, I know, imagine how safe the meat is, etc maybe he uses the same knife to cut meat as well.

OK, WHAT?!?!

She goes on and on about how this cook is an idiot and could possibly have used the same knife that he cuts the lemons and ONION with to also cut the raw meats for prep. BARF!

Talk about nasty and why in the world would she tell us that. Needless to say we left and most likely will not be back. Ewww!

Um, I'm thinking maybe a call to the health inspector would be in order.

At the very least! Raw meat is a definite health hazard so I would agree and say a call to the local health inspector's office would be in order. Not a pleasant way to start the day at all.

Yes, I'd call the health inspector and just let them know what the waitress told you.

Another vote to call the Health Inspector.

Why would what knife he was using to prep the night before change the taste of your water the next day? Did he dip the knife in everyone's water? This just doesn't make sense. I don't know what the real reason was but I doubt it would be the chef's knife - even though it sounds like his knife is NASTY:scared1: .

I would definitely not go there again and I would call the health dept and have them spot inspected.

I was wondering the same thing...I don't get the connection between the water and the...wait...Oh I get it...there was lemon in the water, right? And he'd cut the lemon with the nasty knife. Got it. :thumbsup2

took me a minute to get it too--not until the lemon was mentioned.

yeah add me to that list? I dont get that.

ahhh I should have read further. Lemon, got it.

GROSS!!!

On a different note, I think the major pizza makers use the same instrument to cut all their pizzas. I have watched from time to time while waiting for my pizza and a pizza comes out, gets cut, the next one gets cut by the same slicer without washing it or anything.

So, if you taste onions on your cheese only pizza on occasion, that is why.

Sounds like the server needs a talking to. Even if what she said was true it should have never been said to you.

Thats what we were thinking as she kept on talking. My Mom is was in the food service bussiness in healthcare and her eyes were huge while all this was going on. He apparently has been using the onion knife to also cut the lemons to be put in water, god knows what else was cut with that knife.
Also was thinking of possible allergies, ie; someone is allergic to onions however would not think to question their water, could be deadly. :sad2:

Why not?? If this guy is using unsanitary practices, why should it be covered up?

Sorry - I wasn't implying it should be covered up. I was just saying that she should have discussed it with the manager and not the customer.
