Evidence of Hyperion Wharfs demise?

If you have a store and cash to burn on rent, they'll find a place for you at Downtown Disney -- no matter what they call it.

I understand that but wasn't the point of moving the HD store so that they could do construction work in that area? And now they are moving a new store into the same location.

I have no doubt the Hyperion Wharf is on life support (and maybe behind the scenes they've already pulled the plug). But I wouldn't take this as a sign of it one way or another.

A store like this could be moved easily enough... or this could be a short-term lease to make money on the space in whatever time they have between now and when construction begins. Etc.

The point of Harley Davidson's move was to expand into 3,600 sq. ft. of space that became available at the Downtown Disney West Side.

That opened up Harley Davidson's old space for a new tenant, an Apricot Lane Boutique.

I don't see how any of this suggests the demise of Hyperion Wharf. The Pleasure Island brand is dead (although the old signs are still up, for now). The new name for that area will be Hyperion Wharf. The rebranding to Hyperion Wharf includes some cosmetic changes to the area, including demolition of some of the old structures at Pleasure Island. If outside companies want to invest in snazzy new buildings, Disney will be happy to let those companies spend money. If not, Hyperion Wharf will be little more than what's left of Pleasure Island, with a somewhat different look.

Current businesses and new businesses at Pleasure Island / Hyperion Wharf can stay open, even if there are some construction walls near them.

The success (or failure) of Hyperion Wharf will depend on Disney's ability to attract and retain tenants who are willing to pay what Disney wants and to put up with Disney's terms and conditions.

Landing national chains like Apricot Lane Boutique is exactly what Disney is trying to do with Hyperion Wharf.

Thanks for the info Horace.

I have been hearing rumblings about stalled construction/demolition at PI/WH and a possible change in plans. I was wondering if this was a sign of those rumors being true.

I don't see Hyperion Wharf dying....really it is maximizing the view of the lake from the area and just putting in a theme. It is not an attraction or something like Disney Quest that will ever close or die, it just might be modified over and over again.

I don't expect that WDW would really go crazy in demolishing the buildings or doing a bunch of construction until they have the tenants to occupy those spaces.

Well they did exactly that when they demolished Motion and Beach Club and have nothing to put into those spaces.

Yes, but if I am not mistaken those are area's that won't be rebuilt with buildings (waterfront). I just never figured you would see a huge construction project like a MK expansion for this area. As they get retailers in, they will build to suit or develop plans, without detracting from the existing business that DTD has.

They have shown they will spend a lot on refurbing buildings just to have them sit idle.
They did that on PI about a year or two before everything closed.
They had stores and walk up counter services. Closed them. Revamped the buildings. Which sat closed and abandoned.

You're referring to the building that now houses the Paradiso 57 restaurant. It used to be home to a couple stores and a fast food restaurant. It received an extensive refurbishment and then sat idle for more than a year. And then PI closed. Paradiso had to refurbish the place all over again to meet their needs.

Am I correct in assuming that the Harley Davidson store in DTD is moving because of the Hyperion Wharf project?

Then why is another store opening in it's place?

The funny part... What's been happening to make Hyperion to look like the concept drawing?... A whole lot of nothing... lol, I didn't think it would happen... I heard rumors they scraped the initial design right after they put it out... Like right after (that week or next day).

Turn & Burn Baby! lol

Excatly my thought!

I would say the fact that they haven't done squat since moving Sosa's over & demolishing the other buildings to be proof in my opinion.

But a delay of this magnitude could bring down excitement, and thus, care for it, and life support it to death. Nobody (tenants) want to go move into a place nobody cares about!

I never could figure out why they made the 3 stores & never did anything with them. They must've known that Paradiso was coming into the spot that far out & not needed to sub-divide the area! Plus, now, if they do continue with the Hyperion plans, I'd be a little more than upset if I was Paradiso that I would have to re-build all the restaurant & move all the stuff (kitchen equipment & such) this soon after building)!!!
