I'll try asking again--Has anyone used the kids vouchers on the kids menu with kids over the kid age? I have 3 DD ages 9, 13, 15 and sometimes the older ones eat less then the 9 year old. Or should I get 1 VKL for the 2 older DD?

I think what everyone is saying is that there is NO PROBLEM with ANYONE of ANY age ordering from ANY menu at RFC. You could use 1-2 Child's voucher to order for all 4 of your children.

The portions here are big, large, huge, gigantic, plenty enough for 2 hungry adults to share with leftovers. If your children are light eaters, start by ordering ONE appetizer and ONE entree that all 4 can share using 1 child's voucher. Then, if they want more, use the second and order another appetizer/entree combo.

The flexibility at this restaurant is better than any other at WDW. The wait staff is well trained and MORE than willing to help. The vouchers are issued by WDW regardless of where or how you buy them -- They are the SAME ones WDW gives to guests who purchase meal packages.

And, as for the rest of the park, always order LESS than you think you will need. I hate wasting food so DH and I always share - everywhere. (Okay, except maybe when it comes to creme brulee which I NEVER share. Try reaching for it and I turn into a snarly snapping beast.) But overall I play nice with others! :rolleyes1

Enjoy your trip and your meals.

I agree, but as well as being uncomfortable I would also be embarrassed by the cheapness. Sooner or later they will crack down on people cheating the system then a good thing will end. I see no problem with two adults or one adult and a child sharing an adult voucher meal but come on folks. Two adults and one child sharing a child voucher? Let’s set a better example for our children. If you don’t have the money for certain locations then you should not be eating there..

I would not usually respond but........There is absolutely nothing wrong with using the child's voucher for the 3 of us. RFC has a kids menu, and yet allows kids to order on a VKL JUST LIKE AN ADULT. It is their decision. We had more than enough food and we felt guilty the first time when we used 2 vouchers for the 3 of us and had so much WASTED food left over enough for at least 2 others. THIS was a bad example to set.

We used that other ADULT VKL voucher at another place where our savings was not as great and believe me, disney gets their money back....that's exactly why they choose their programs and have the vouchers.

I felt a little odd at first, but then when I learned just how many vouchers go unredeamed or wasted, well, I'm sure they know what they are doing. The vouchers are a marketing tool. And, cheapness???...well considering the THOUSANDS of dollars we spent on the vacation...most of which was paid directly to Disney, I'm not concerned about that. Disney made a lot of money on us on our 9 day vacation and I'm not concerned at all if someone calls me cheap because I used a marketing tool to its best value.

Your telling me that you used a child’s voucher to feed two adults and a child and you see nothing wrong in that? I don't care if you are permitted to order off of the regular menu using a child’s voucher, the child’s voucher is for a child. Now I see no problem in splitting a meal purchased with a child’s voucher between two "children." You did not use a marketing tool to its best value, you cheated and lied but if you felt that you were justified in doing that then it is your business.

I think the question posed by the lady with three kids has not been answered. The question should be is there an age limit on the vouchers? In other words does it say for children up to ……. a certain age? I would never qualify my daughter who is 15 to be considered a child when ordering food. Usually I think the cut off would be 12 but I may be mistaken and I apologize in advance if I am incorrect.

What is the age limit on the kids menu? If your children are older then what is stated you should not use the kids voucher. Is there an age limit on the vouchers themselves? I know that is not what you probably want to hear but you asked.

I'm not sure how I cheated and LIED? There was myself, my husband and my son. We used our VKL kids voucher to order food for ALL of us....INCLUDING MY SON who is, at 4 years old, a kid. Second, we additionally ordered...and paid for...a full priced appetizer charged as an entree that we all shared..this cost a lot more than a kids meal. Third, we purchased 2 additional drinks. We normally would not spend our money on drinks at a restaurant.

I never intended for 2 adults only, for example, to go in and use a KIDS voucher. No kid, no kid voucher. It is the same type of savings as someone using a DIsney discount code and getting a WL room for $133 when someone else paid $450+ for the same room. Do we tell the person getting the $133 room that they should have paid more and are being cheap and must have lied to get the deal?

There was no dishonesty, no cheating, no lying involved. We asked before we ordered how we should handle the voucher, and this is what the restaurant employee said to do. How in the world did a post about saving at the Happiest Place on Earth take such a bad turn to personal attacks and stabs?

If you feel comfortable in what you did then so be it. But please don’t try to justify two adults and one child using a child VKL to order their, and I mean all three of you, meal as being above board. You did it, you were comfortable in doing it and that is all that matters to you. I was expressing my opinion and I would never do an end around, especially in front of my child, to save a few bucks. Your analogy with the room discounts is like comparing apples to oranges. To cheat and make a postcard for a room discount would have been comparing apples to apples. I did not mean to offend you or give the impression that I was attacking you, for that I apologize, but I don’t apologize for saying that children should share children’s vouchers and adults should share adult vouchers.

Now, can we get over this?

I got one from Redneckchick13 and the other one I'm not sure of but I think it's cabmom?? Thank you!! I hope all my cards got to their destinations - I know some did but some are unaccounted for.

Here is what I wanted to know. I have 2 teenage daughters who often would rather order off of the childrens menu. Would they be able to do so with the VKL voucher? I am not trying to cheat or lie--what is the difference if a 6 year old or a 16 year old orders small portions??
My DH and I plan on sharing a VKL adult to eat with, we're not using the kids voucher.

I have heard that at Disney some places allow anyone to order off the childrens menu so in that case they probably could. At every other place that we have eaten at, outside of Disney, they have an age set for those ordering off a childrens menu. Usually the cut off is 12 years old. If that is the case your children should split an adult voucher but only if they were ordering off the regular menu.

Glad to see that you as parents will be splitting an adult voucher instead of all four of you using two childrens vouchers. Two childrens vouchers should get you two childrens meals off that menu. Maybe a CM will help you out with your question better then I did.

The "child" VKL simply says "CHILD" in the upper right corner on the front. When you order vouchers from Hotwire, Connections, etc, the order form for the adult vouchers says "12+" and the child VKLs state "ages 3-11".

Having stated that, I've used a mixture of 3 adult and 3 child VKLs to pay for a lunch where we had 5 "adults" and 3 "children" at the table and the server applied all the vouchers to the most expensive entrées, regardless of who ordered them. This was true for RFC at AK and LTT in MK. In the 50's PrimeTime, the server went strictly by who ordered what.

We just used some of our vouchers at RFK, Beaches & Cream, Tangerine Cafe and Crystal Palace Character Breakfast. Here's a recap of how we used the vouchers.....

Beaches & Cream - 2 Quick & Casual vouchers

2 Double Bacon Cheeseburgers
1 french fry
1 onion ring
2 cokes
1 Milky Way Sundae
1 Fudge Mud Slide
Total without tip was $45.50....vouchers cost $23.00

Plus I asked the waitress for a bun, so I could share my burger with dd....she actually brought out another sanwich with all the fixings....so I really had 2 single bacon cheeseburgers....plus an extra coke in a plastic cup for dd...no extra charge plus a chocolate chip cookie to go.

Burgers were fabulous!! We were stuffed and our sundaes looked like the hadn't been touched! We will definitely be going back!

Rainforest Cafe - 1 adult VKL & 1 child VKL

2 character drinks (these are plastic water bottles with figurines in the bottom that your child can play with)
1 caribe chicken
1 crab dip
1 tree top filet with stuffed lobster
1 primal steak with stuffed lobster
1 volcano

Total with tip $150 Voucher cost $43.75

The monetary value for the meal is good, but we found the food to be very bland. The crab dip was okay, but the steaks were not very good....no seasoning at all. My filet was like a block of charcoal and I asked for it to be cooked medium. They took it back and made me another one....not much better. So bland. Of course DD actually liked it and ate a good portion of the steak while I ate the lobster minus the stuffing. The volcano was very good...so the meal ended well....or at least we thought. DH got food poisoning that night. About 6 hours later dh woke up in a sweat with the worst cramps he has ever had. He only ate the meal at RFC that day.....and I was fine...so it must have been his steak or his lobster. He was very ill for about 2 hours....and then woke up in the morning very ill again. Luckily he was okay after a couple of hours. DD enjoyed the atmosphere but I am not sure we will go here again.

I also used 1 Q&C at Tangerine Cafe:
1 Saffron Rotisserie Chicken plate
1 Large Coke
1 side of french fries
1 peanut butter chocolate mousse

Total $24 Voucher cost $11.50

Chicken was a little on the dry side, but still good. Very large portions and with the extra side of fries along with the rice and hummus that came with the meal it was enough for 2 people.

Crystal Palace Character Breakfast

This was one of our most enjoyable meals. DD loves the pooh characters and she was all smiles this morning! She even ate some breakfast...which is a miracle in itself! We had custom made omletes (took a little while to make, but worth it) which were great....loved the hashbrown casserole...bacon, sausage. Had the yummy puffed french toast rolled in cinnamon and sugar.....biscuits....muffins...fruit. We also had the smoothies to go......these tasted to me like chocolate raspberry ice cream shakes! Yummy!!

I never saw the bill , but the vouchers cost us $37. We will be going back and making this a tradition for breakfast! I believe the regular price is $16.99 per adult plus tax & gratuity would be around $42 plus the additional cost of the smoothies....so you save a couple of dollars with the vouchers and receive the smoothies for free!

You did the responsbile and honest thing. The 5 adults split meals off the 3 adult vouchers and the 3 children used the 3 children vouchers.

Hi,

If your daughters aren't typical big eaters, you may be better off to purchase for them without vouchers. Not many restaurants allow non children to purchase from their childrens menu. Not so much a matter of portion size, but its more a matter of making dining out affordable for families. You could always call the restaurant in advance to ask what their official policy is regarding kid's meals.

And don't let someone else's guilt trip drive your decision. You will see what I mean when you get to Disney. Disney has the best customer service I've experienced. They train their CM's well and policies are different at each place.

In case you didn't notice...that's NOT what the poster said. She said the server took off the most expensive items, no matter who, child or adult, ordered. Of course she did the HONEST thing....she's a customer who presented a voucher and let the company decide what their policy is in handling them.

OK THEN, she did the right thing, she had three children and used three children vouchers. HAPPY!

We are going in Feb and would like to know more about how many can use these vouchers. There are 4 of us. 2 adult females (very small eaters) and 2 kids (both small eaters) Do we need to buy each child thier own vouchers or can they share one and also can my sister and I share an adult one? I dont want to go there feeling like I am doing something cheap but after reading all the posts I am worried that there is going to be SO much food going to waste if the kids use 2 and we use 2 at each meal.

I suspect you could share one adult voucher and maybe add a side to get enough food. If you join the Safari Club, you can get a free appetizer. We were offered some sort of chicken strips, which my 10 yo ate as his meal along with some of our fries.

DH and DS16 are both pretty big eaters and I can hold my own. The two little boys eat little. We shared two vouchers and had the free appetizer and took out several boxes of leftovers. No room at all for the yummy desserts (which we did nibble on in the room for the next couple of days).

We just got back from our vacation a few days ago. This was our first time using meal vouchers. For the most part I think we got our money out of them and then some. Especially eating at the RFC. We used one adult voucher and one child voucher for the 6 of us (2 adults, one 5 yr old, one 2.5 yr old and 10 month old twins). Of course the babies and toddlers didn't eat much. We ordered the mozzarella sticks appetizer for the kids and the shrimp cocktail appetizer for us, both were yummy! Then we ordered the two different steak meals with the stuffed lobster tails. The primal steak was good (according to dh) and my filet wasn't so great. It was overcooked a bit and not especially tasty. The lobster was okay, the stuffing was AWESOME! We also ordered two frozen daquiri drinks with the vouchers, those were quite good. For desert we used the two vouchers to get the volcano. It was one of the best deserts I have ever had! We all enjoyed it. It freaked me out when we first sat down and when I mentioned the vouchers to our server she asked to see them. Like maybe they were counterfeit or something? She let us order for the kids voucher off the adult menu but didn't seem that interested in helping us choose any foods or anything. I did feel like a schmuck for ordering adult food for our kids, even though they did eat some of the steak and fries that came with it. I definately felt cheap and like we were taking advantage. Would we do it again? Probably! We got about a $140 value for our $43 spent in vouchers. You really can't beat that!

Another restaurant we used the vouchers at was the Pepper Market at Coronado Springs resort. I think the food there is very good and if you order right you can definately get a great deal with the vouchers. Especially if you order the steak. We ate there twice last week. It wasn't very convenient for us because we were staying in a rental home, but for anyone staying on property I really recommend trying this place. The second nite I went in alone and got takeout using 3 vouchers. That was rough. It took me 45 minutes to round up all the food from the different stations. Then the cashier got mad at me when she rung me up before I gave her the vouchers :guilty: . Oops! Their salad maker is also not so quick and didn't know if I could order a small salad as a "side" so I had to get in his line twice. That took me at least 20 minutes just for two side salads! I would definately eat there again, all the food we had was great :D !

We also used the vouchers at Beaches and Cream for lunch one day. We got the turkey sandwich and the turkey wrap and were not impressed with them. The onion rings were good and the sundaes were really good, though. We wouldn't go there again (at least not out of our way).

We used vouchers at the Tangerine Cafe at Epcot and got a good value and great food. I ordered the chicken platter (meat, tabouleh, couscous, bread and hummus) and a side of fries, and we got a drink and the desert too, which was baklava fingers. Very tasty! Definately would eat there again. About $21 worth of food.

We used the vouchers at the Japanese carryout restaurant at Epcot too (can't remember the name?). I ordered the Samuri combo (chicken and beef) it came with rice, and we got a side of sushi, some green tea and chocolate chestnut cake with the voucher too. About $24 worth of food.

The only place that we didn't do so great with the vouchers was at the MK. We ate at the Columbia House and saved maybe $1 or 2. The food was alright. It was nice to go upstairs and have the place almost to ourselves.

We had ressies for CRT but had to give them up when our trip got postponed. So we had 3 breakfast vouchers to use. We used them to eat at the Crystal Palace. I think we saved maybe $4 or so with tax and tip. It would have been a much better value if we'd eaten at the castle. Oh well! That breakfast was very yummy!

I know we will use vouchers again the next time we go, but I probably won't buy as many. We used 10 Q&C, 2 VKL, 3 breakfast feature.

Very nice report Kellydelly! I enjoy seeing how everyone is using their vouchers! :D I have a few of them to use when we go down to WDW next month. I am thinking I could use a few more but I don't think I would join HotWire for them. Still thinking.....

Your plan is correct. You and your sister share one adult voucher and the kids can share the childrens. You may have to buy an extrra side, but I wouldn't. If still hungry after you can always grab a snack along the way. :flower:
