"Of course, they kept $100 of my money which I will never get back, and that was my own stupid fault for going through WDTC in the first place rather than wait 6 months and make a reservation through Central!!!"

Sherry, is that Walt Disney Travel Co.? I didn't know some deposits for that were non-refundable. We booked through Disney vacation, and I believe we can cancel. I'm sorry you were out that money. That's horrible.

I like booking thru DVP, because I am able to make payments up until a month or two weeks before our trip. That gives me time to have it paid up before. I'm about to call them to put down another $500 this afternoon.

We should be getting the remainder of the money for our trip today, so that will wrap up that cost. Then, we'll just have to save for fuel, food, and souvenirs. I really don't want to charge anything on my credit cards. Mine are all paid off at the current time, and I'd like to keep it that way.

Yes, Walt Disney Travel Company. If you cancel with them even a year in advance, they will keep at least $100 of your money. If you cancel within, I think it is, two months or one month of your trip, they take even more money. That is a lesson learned. I did the WDTC package last December - thinking it was more sensible - and got the little extra 'perks' like the not-so-impressive coin and the luggage tags and the discount card for DTD. It would have been more financially sensible to book through Central Reservations, which is cheaper - who will give you a full refund up to five days before the trip - and gotten the tickets separately. The 'perks' are not worth it in the WDTC for the extra money they charge. They will have to start adding some extra nifty stuff into those packages to make them worth all that money!

I know what you mean about having time to plunk down bits of money on the reservation here and there, all the way up to a couple of weeks before you go. WDTC requires that the total is due 30 days before arrival, whereas with Central, you can pay all of it up front, or just put down one night's deposit and then pay the rest upon arrival. But there is a ncie feeling that comes with knowing you have paid it all in advance and all you have to do is come up with food, souvenirs, fuel!!

Oh, and I agree with what you said earlier - if I were to wait until I got ALL of my debt paid off, I would cleary not be looking at the gates of Disneyland until I am in my golden years, using a walker! Frankly, I don't want to wait that long, and I have a hunch that more than 50% of the people in DL probably have huge debts hanging over their heads!

well idk if this is something that is needed to know but id have credit cards eathier i spend cash i dont do credit its not worth it to me if i had credit cards id be in so much debt

That is good that you dont have to worry about credit card debit. I have 2 major credit cards, and while I dont really use them anymore, I still owe alot of money!! I am working on paying them off. My reason for getting the credit cards, and I am glad I did, was for emergencies. My DH was laid off last year in mid-Jan., and didnt get a job again until late Aug. I am a full time nursing student, so I am not able to work much during the semesters. Having those credit cards helped us out. I do think everybody should be able to have 1 credit card for in case of an emergency, you just have to be able to self control over not usuing it for non-emergencies.

Congrats on your DHs job, hopefully it will last. Just out of curiosity, are you able to work at all?? Doing anything?? I know you do not have a car or a drivers license, but does your DH?? Wouldnt you like to be able to own a car someday, and have that sort of freedom??

none of us do but we are thinking about car and licenes.

and no i cant work i could try work at home things but ive waisted 5k in the last 7 years on those things none ever work out what so ever

I hear those things never really work out. Do you mind if I ask why you cant work at all?? I mean I understand how someone would have to avoid certain lines of work, my sister had a severe back injury in a car accident when she was 14, so she is limited as well. And her DBF had a broken neck in a car accident (different accident), and there are several lines of work he cant do with out risk of his neck breaking (I dont know the exact spot it was broken, but from what I understand is that it is pretty close to his spine and that if it broke again, it could easily kill him).

deleated
(before my meds tho i couldnt think stright on one thing for more then 5mins atatime)

oh and the job things ive tryed out one i waisted so much on was smc.. i really thought that could of took off we tried everything they said.. god what a waist

Jade go, have fun and best of all do a TR when you get home. :). So that some posters may not understand if you get SSI you are not allowed to have a savings. Yes the money is sent to a bank but every I think 6 months, but once a year for sure you must account for where that money went. If she were to put money from her fathers pension into a savings it might mean her SSI would be lowered :(. So explain how she is to save? Making memories with her son is the important issue.

Jade will do the right thing-- that I am sure of. It is her trip to plan and then to go on if she feels she can afford it. I just hope they have a wonderful time, take lots of pictures, and make memories.

Patty

Hold on, hold on, let me get this right. First up, Jade, I'm very sorry that your dad passed when you were 14 and that you had head trauma right afterwards. Now...

There are plenty of good memories that I can make with my children and not all of them involve an expensive, 2-3x yearly trip to Disney. I work! My husband and I bust our butts to put food on the table and to maybe have a little something left over to take the kids to the movies, the zoo, the park and maybe after we've paid our mortgage, our car bill, our oil bill, our phone bill, etc., maybe, just maybe, we can take them to Disney.

Sheesh Jade, not for nothing, if you type on the Disboards, you can work at least part-time as a receptionist so that you can just answer phones all day and not have to worry about your spelling.

I'd love to go to Disney and get AP's, but it's not possible and I'm not getting a free ride from the gov't. I may not have a college education and neither does DH, but we go out there and we make a decent living. My DH is a cop and he's out there everyday risking his life for a measly paycheck. I'm blessed to be able to work part-time, but the point is, I have to work!!!!

With all the typing you do, I really don't see a reason why you can't go out and get a job. Burger King and McDonald's are always hiring. And you don't need to read, they have pictures on the cash registers.:lmao:

I haven't read any of your thread, Jade, except for this last page, but...NYPDwife, as far as I know, Jade and her family have only been to Disneyland once. She *wants* to go more often, but I don't think she has at all.

If she hasn't been there at all, why does her profile picture show her and a Princess in the parks? Hmmm..and even if she wanted to go more often, I still say, get a job. If everyone gets beat up over using refillable mugs at different resorts, why shouldn't she get slammed for wasting everyone's tax dollars on trips to Disney? If she's getting pension $, she should either have her SSI reduced or not have it at all. If she was working hard and paying out tax dollars to other people like her, I'm sure she'd feel the same way.

She said as far as she knows, they have been there once, not not at all. I don't think it's a good idea to judge other people when you don't know them or their circumstances.

As Jade has already mentioned, she was wanting some support from DIS friends during a difficult time.

I understand support, but I don't understand the enabling. And why do good memories HAVE to be made at Disney? Shouldn't she teach her son a valuable lesson and show him how to save for things you want and show him how to work hard for the things you get in life?

this thread is over no more fighting about this maryjo erase it if you wish not dealing with it

Sorry Jade. I think sometimes it's hard b/c there's a group of us who knows you and knows the basics of your situation, and how hard you have tried to do nice things for your fam, and know how many times your plans have changed and been stopped by the realities of life. But there's a whole buncha people who don't, and that's why posts like this are hard.

Bumbershoot, I was thinking that very thing....hugs, Jade.

ty bumbershoot and uss and all the others who are regulers here and know me and my problems and siguations i do apreciate you all you have all helped me many times.

I just think it's strange that someone would post such nasty things on a thread that was basically finished.... Makes you wonder.

Jade - have fun in October and I hope everything works out (it always does in the end :thumbsup2)

Really, NYPDwife, do you honestly think you know everything about Jade's situation? The thread was for support and advise. Wouldn't it be better to not say anything than to be so hurtful? If you didn't like this thread there are surely more to post on.

I hope everything works out well, Jade.
