Fresh off our castle siege and loaded down with our plunder (ie, full bellies) we headed back to Adventureland to take care of some business. The morning had been pretty tightly planned between the Pirates League and CRT lunch. So our afternoon was to be used to do all of the things we had to walk right past earlier in the day.
And where might you think 3 young pirates would want to head? Perhaps to a pirate themed ride? Of course! That's why we made a bee line to...
...The Magic Carpets of Aladdin! Hey - you watch the first 30 minutes of Aladdin and tell me he's not a pirate. Stealing stuff, running from the law, swashbuckling. Sure, he doesn't have a parrot, but he has a monkey. And really, what's a parrot but just a monkey with feathers, right?
While the kids rode the Magic Carpets of Aladdin®
(legal disclaimer: any similarities, real or implied, between the Magic Carpets of Aladdin® and other spin-in-a-circle,-go-up-and-down rides including but not limited to Dumbo The Flying Elephant, Triceratops Spin and Astro Orbiter is merely coincidence. The are all totally different rides. You're just imagining things if you think otherwise) I made a FastPass Run over to Buzz Lightyear. I caught the end of the "Dream Along with Mickey" show on the castle stage and snapped a quick cell phone picture
After securing the FPs, I waited around for just a bit to meet up with the best nemesis a guy could ask for: Tim! (screen name: that's nice). Tim and I have been sworn enemies for like, a few months or so. He mentioned on his PRT (I think) that he didn't have a nemesis, so I jumped at the chance. We had actually met briefly last March when we were both in the MK. This time, however, I got to meet is wife Mel and lovely daughter, Juliana. Unfortunately, this meeting was quite brief as I had to get back before my crew staged a mutiny and commandeered the flying carpets. Before parting, we made plans to meet up for Wishes that night.
So I made my way back to Adventureland. (For those of you keeping track, this makes at least 4 trips past Aloha Isle without stopping for a Dole Whip. This makes me sad just thinking about it.)
The crew had just disembarked from the carpets and we were ready and raring to go to finally get on that most infamous of Pirate Boat Rides...
...The Jungle Cruise!
I had grabbed FastPasses on our walk from the Pirates League to CRT and it was time to use them. In addition to this being their first ride on the Jungle Cruise, this was Kaylene & Kayden's first experience with FastPass. The posted wait time was about 45 minutes, so there were quite a few people standing in the standby line. And with the way that the FastPass line goes for the Jungle Cruise, we walk past just about all of them. Kaylene said she felt bad, walking right on the boat while all of those people were standing there waiting. I explained that everyone in the park can use FastPass, and those people decided not to. She still felt a twinge of guilt, but I assured her it would pass.
The cruise was pretty good - I have had better, but I've certainly had worse. She really had to scrape the bottom of her pun barrel at the end, though. There was a backup of 3 or 4 boats waiting to unload so we had to wait probably 10 extra minutes. I'll give her credit - she kept the puns coming the entire time. ("Please be careful getting out of the boat. If you slip, it's a fireable offense. You'll fall into the water and get wet, I'll point and laugh and get fired")
We carefully stepped off of our vessel and back to dry land. And as everyone knows, Pirates dread dry land. They crave the open seas. There is only one place where we could go to satisfy that burning need. Yes, we finally made it to...
Kayden was a little worried about the dark, but soon got over it and we all really enjoyed the ride.
It was about 2:30 when we got out of Pirates, so we reckoned it was time to mosey on over to Frontierland to stake out a claim on a spot to watch the parade. (See how I switched there from all the pireate-y talk to cowboy talk for Frontierland? Pretty good, no?)
A dog walking on all 4 paws? That just doesn't make any sense.
All of the parade floats were the standard afternoon parade fare, with no extra holiday decorations - until we got to the Princess Float. It pulls double duty, also running in Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Parade. It was all strung with garland, ornaments and a giant "Happy Holidays" sign. It didn't look out of place, though, as I didn't even notice these things until I went through all of my pictures after we got home.
After the parade, we still had about 30 minutes before our next engagement. Bambi and I decided to find a nice bench for a few minutes while everyone else went into the Country Bear Jamboree. It's a cute show, and the kids really love it. And the grandparents love taking them to it. So we let them. So we don't have to.
Just before 4pm, the Jamboree let out, we gathered the troops and set off for...
More Pirate Stuff!
Everyday at 4pm, all of the kids that went to the Pirates League that day are invited back to take part in a Pirate Parade around Adventureland. (I'd apologize for the shadows in the pictures, but it's not really my fault. The late afternoon sun was setting and casting shadows that wreaked havoc on my camera's ability to properly meter the light. I blame Galileo. If he didn't figure out that the sun, not the earth, were the center of the solar system, we wouldn't have this problem.)
I think he's casting a spell.
Several Pirate CMs led the kids in pirate chants, then had them all grab a rope. The CM let them around Adventureland, in and out of the Pirate store and finally to the front of the Pirates League. All the while, they were chanting Pirate chants.
The group shot (minus Evan, who was feeling shy and didn't want to do the parade)
Each little pirate got a handful of treasure (small plastic jewels which I'm pretty sure have all been lost already) and certificate saying the were in the parade. As soon as all of the treasure has been divvied up, this guy appeared:
Now, what do you suppose a crusty old Sea Dog like him was doing at Walt Disney World? Well, he heard that there was a new bunch of Pirates, and he was recruiting and training crew members for Captain Jack Sparrow himself. Any interested parties were invited over to have a look for themselves.
Pretty soon, the captain himself appeared to help train the new recruits.
And who do you suppose got picked to train for Jack's crew? None other than our own little Pirate Princess:
Here she is practicing Captain Jack's most important move. The "Distract them and Run Away"
