Everything Michigan....

Tess ~ are you in SE MI as well? We're downriver (close to Monroe) and we get the Ohio stations as part of our cable, too. Being so close to the Canada border, we also get the Canadian channel CBC which is kind of neat. :thumbsup2

We're over by Adrian. We're practically neighbors. :goodvibes

Mickey's hilarious to listen to in the booth... It's dated, but here's a great web site of "Mickeyisms": "Holmstrom gets more attention around the net than a pretty girl around closing time!"

Hi Tess (and other Michiganders!)! We're in Manchester, which gets Detroit television stations but my parents in Tecumseh get Ohio ones.

Best wishes to the city of Detroit on their new mayor. I hope, I hope, I hope that he can turn that city around. I can't say that I'm optimistic and I've washed my hands of Wayne County long ago (used to live there)... but I wish them well.

Wouldnt you just like to sit down and talk to him.....what a great guy...
I love listening to him talk about composite sticks vs "the lumber"...:lmao:

My upcoming trip to the world is 26 days away!!!! I need it......

We have friends who live in Manchester! Don't you have a play-off game tonight?

Knock Knock...do you natives mind a guest? Wondering if anyone has any advice about visiting Mackinac Island. DH loved seeing it a couple years ago on 'Dirty Jobs' and we talk about it from time to time.

Go forth and buy fudge.

Lots and lots of fudge!

::yes::

We usually stay in Mackinac City and take the ferry over for day visits but I'd love to actually stay on the island sometime. It's beautiful!

Other folks may have some better specific advice for you. We haven't been up there since '03.

Just curious, what was the dirty job? (I am thinking picking up horse poo!)

I think he did that and also painted and did some other maitnence (maybe changed lightbulbs?) on the bridge.

You've been helpful already, I didn't even think of staying in Mackinac city and going over for day trips. I bet that's way less $$$

Yes, a lot less $$, anything on the island is $200 plus a night.....Mission Point is usually the $200/night for a basic no view room....Mackinac city is a very good way to go......take bikes if you can, great way to explore the island....
MC has a lot of hotels with indoor water parks now......I'lll ck my AAA magazine and get back with you.....

WOW what a great weekend in MI......65 degrees both Sat. & Sunday!!!!!

I respectfully beg to differ on all rooms on the island costing 200. We stay about every year for the last few. I won't argue that there are cheaper hotels at Mackinaw City except on the Sunday before Labor day when the island is cheaper.
We often stay at the Inn on Mackinac. Over Labor Day our queen room 1 bed cost 139 a night for Saturday and Sunday night and 89 on Monday. This included a hot breakfast. There are many lovely B & B's on the island for less than 200. The major hotels tend to cost more and some like Mission Point are a bit from downtown.
One of my favorite Mackinac Island sites is Mack inac.org or mackinacisland.org can't remember which, but it not only has events but also lists the different accomadations with links to their web sites. As sister hotel to Inn on Mackinac is the Murray Hotel, right down town where rooms are often under 100.
While I agree you can have a wonderful time on the island with just a day trip, the magic of the island really shines when all the day trippers go home.....
By all means bring your own bikes if you have them. It costs 8 to bring them on the ferry but this is much cheaper than renting and riding up in the interior of the island will take you far from the crowds. Hiking up in the center of the island is wonderful as well. They have maps downtown with the trails clearly marked.
Mike did 2 shows for dirty jobs (Mike like I know him)one featured the bridge and he changed lightbulbs and climbed down into one of the tower legs to paint. He also climbed up to the top of one of the towers and then found their was an elevator. The Mackinac island one had him handling draft horses and going to the town dump and compost pile....
We love the island and were day trippers a couple of times...but we love the peace and tranquility we find when we stay a couple of nights.
Our daughter fell in love with the island on a day trip and ended up with a wedding there last year.

Last year a friend of mine got to do just that! The Wings alumni were in town for a charity game and several of them came out to sign autographs afterwards. One of them was Redmond. He hung around for quite some time and just chatted with those that wanted to.

Hello Michiganders!!!

How did you all like the gorgeous Indian Summer weather we had this weekend :woohoo:! We were way overdue. DH and I went walking in Metro park. A lot of walkers, bicyclers and roller bladers were there too. I could have this weather all winter. I dread our Michigan winters.

Merry Christmas to all my fellow Michiganders!!

No snow here in Wyandotte. Just ice. Although my oldest son is in heaven since he is building an ice rink in the back yard. :rotfl:

And a Merry Christmas to you too! We have snow, but rain is expected after midnight--we've had a bit of sleet today though and we have a smidge of snow on the ground.

Hi fellow Michiganders, can I join the group here? I don't know how I missed this group until today lol.

I am from Allegan Michigan. Southwest of Grand Rapids on the west side of the state. I grew up in Holland Michigan aka the tulip city:goodvibes

Its snowing again here after a couple days of drizzly weather and a little freezing rain.
