Everything Michigan....

 Hi Fantasia....I think we met briefly at one of the 12 Oaks meets a few years ago.

I enjoy the Petosky area & I also enjoy Traverse City

My favorites:

Mackinac Island is #1.
Leelanau and Old Mission peninsulas
Petoskey and Cheboygan - frequent visits to see inlaws
Just north of Port Huron, there is a B&B on Lake Huron we enjoy
Irish Hills
Les Chenaux Islands area in the UP - Cedarville and Hessel
Saugatuck
Kalamazoo and metro Detroit to be with family and friends

You know, I was going to bring DH and the kids to Irish Hills last month just to go to Dinosaur Gardens. I looked online and saw that it closed. :guilty: That was sad, it was part of my youth that I wanted to share with the kiddies.

My Michigan faves are Charlevoix, Frankenmuth, Mackinac Island and Grand Rapids. Also love a nice drive through Hines Park for the fall colors.

Last time I went there the mosquitoes were bigger than the dinosaurs! :rotfl2:

Hi disney_queen!! That's one of the reason why I love Mackinac.. their fudge! If you don't mind, if you could kindly post the recipe here, thank you so much!!

Somewhere In Time is also one of my favorite movie. I own the dvd and I watch it from time to time when there's nothing good on tv. I just believe Christopher Reeve is gone though.. :( Jane Seymore is still looking good after all these years!

Anyone else would like to share where their favorite places to visit here in Michigan?

I'd love to share it with you! Here is the website I got it from:

http://www.thatsmyhome.com/fudge-recipes/mackinac-island-fudge.htm

and here is the recipe:

Mackinac Island Fudge

1/2 cup milk

1/2 cup butter

1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/8 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups confectioners’ sugar

1/2 cup nuts (optional)

Mix milk, butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar and salt in heavy pan. Cook at medium heat until boiling. Boil exactly 6 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and add vanilla extract and confectioners’ sugar. Beat with mixer until smooth and thick. Add nuts, if desired. Pour into a buttered pan and freeze 20 minutes. Cut into pieces.

Makes approximately 1 pound of fudge.

Peanut Butter Mackinac Island Fudge
Reduce butter to 1/4 cup and add 1/2 cup peanut butter.

Chocolate Mackinac Island Fudge
Use basic recipe, adding 1/2 cup cocoa with the confectioners’ sugar.

I don't know what the original would taste like, to me there is no other kind of fudge except chocolate fudge..:confused3 I like to add walnuts, too.

Hope it turns out for you!

I miss Niki's pizza, OPA!!, and Mexican Village...:guilty: We have one day to ourselves when we go up for Thanksgiving, how can we fit all of that into one day???

Wow, another long, lost memory. We used to go camping in Irish Hills every year. We went to Mystery Spot, Devils Lake, horseback riding. And we tried to go that cheesey fake western town amusement area, but an electrical line broke when we got there and they evacuated. Anyone know about that place? It must be gone by now, that was about 35 years ago...We went to Dinosaur gardens, too, you could shoot at them with a gun like Buzz Lightyear, right?

I can't believe I can remember this stuff, but I can't remember why I walked into a room...:confused3

Stagecoach Stop is still there, and bigger than ever!

Believe it or not, my cousin had her wedding reception last year at the saloon across the street from stagecoach stop and got rooms for us at the Stagecoach Stop motel. Oh my!!!!!! Let's just say DH and I snuck out that night late, drove back to Livonia and then early the next morning drove back to the 'motel' to be with family.

Just had to add that I just got back from Kalamazoo. My son and daugher in law presented me with my first grandchild today, a baby girl!!! Her name is Taryn Elizabeth. She weighed in at 7 lb. 8 oz and was 20 inches long, Both are doing well and this proud grandma already has her Mickey ornament all picked out!!!

Congratulations, Pinnie!!! Grandparenting is the greatest! I have six grandchildren, all under the age of six. I'll be in Kalamazoo on Friday to spend the day with two of the six.

Hi 1gr8mouse! I lived in Battle Creek for about a year until my husband passed away, then we moved back in Detroit suburb where my family and his family lives.

I love Battle Creek. You are not far from the suburb, the city, and the country. It's like you're five miles from it all. It's a nice quiet laid back city. Well.. that's how I saw it when we were living there.

Thanks hrh_disney_queen . I guess that doesn't sound too complicated, however, that's a lot of ingredients! :stir: I'm sure mine won't turn out like how they make it at Mackinac or Frankenmuth. Thanks for sharing! :)

If I had to choose one place to visit in Michigan it would be Greenfield Village. I love that place. My mom worked there when she was in college, my parents were married there, I worked there when I was in college, and then I was married there.
