This has been a very interesting thread. We recently faced this dilema, as we moved, didn't know any new neighbors, have no relatives within 3 hours, and have recently had 2 cats scoot out the door and get lost. We wrestled with the question of should we put them in a kennel or have some one we don't know well come in (we have 2 cats now). In a kennel, they'd be safe, but not happy; at home, happier, but I was terrified of one scooting out when someone (who?) came in to feed them (they're indoor cats, one's a very curious young one). Finally DS had an idea-for this time-he knew a girl in the neighborhood he'd recommend. Unfortunately, he's away at college, but he recommended her. But all the time we were gone, I worried about our indoor cats slipping out. Next time we go to WDW, I may do the auto feeder thing-seems like our new neighbors keep to themselves, so we still don't know them well.
