Everyone present to check in?

i reserved by calling disney and explained that I did not know if my husband would be traveling with us for the entire trip due to work... I wanted to only have him on the ressie for whatever time he would be there - and she told me to book him for the whole trip, and it wouldn't matter. I don't care about the extra DDP credits, but I do not want to be looked at like I am doing something wrong or underhanded. At this point, it appears my DH will be joining us for the last 3 days of the trip ...

We'll see what happens - maybe I will call Disney again and see if I get another opinion.

How did people put "phantom relatives" in thier room. I would think that a CM would think it is suspicous if there was an extra person or two that did not purchase tickets to the park. If they bought tickets for the "phantom relative" to make it look legimate wouldn't it be easier just to pay for the food that wasn't covered on the dining plan.

Just wondering???

All they had to do was buy a one day base ticket for everyone they claimed were in their party.
Then they could save the one day passes for the future trips and buy tickets for their group from elsewhere.
At a later date they could upgrade their one day passes.

Some people will think up all kinds of ways to cheat the system.

Then the honest folks end up being inconvenienced because of a few who do not follow the rules.

I read this Quote on another post :

"Life would be easier, nicer, less stressfull, and a heck of a lot cleaner if all people would respect others rights and the enviroment around them. Following the rules in place is the first step toward that goal. It's that simple, it really is!"

Good advice.

That is the way I try to live my life and that is also what I taught my four children.

My guess is they are more concerned about people on free dining who are staying 10 days with one day base tickets. If there are 4 of you with 9 day MYW tickets it probably won't raise suspicions of cheating...

It would seem to me(and maybe this isn't possible, I don't know) that IF they require everyone to be there and everyone is NOT there(because I'm pretty sure that people arriving later than others in their party happens quite often)...they'll give the "keys to the World" only to the # of persons checking in, with the others getting theirs when they arrive. If not, Disney is going to have quite a few upset people on their hands. As a matter of fact, I have a friend who works the front desk at POP. I think I'll email her and ask her this very question.

please let us know when you get the answer 'cause we're facing a possible similar situation... my nieces live in florida and are driving up to meet us (15yo & 17yo) and will be staying w/us for our quick weekend trip but may not be there when we arrive at the resort... i'd hate to have to wait to check in...

I will be interested to see how this is actually handled since we will have an issue with this new policy as well. I will arrive with Dh and 3 of our kids on one date via the auto train. We are staying one night at ASMu. The next day my mother is flying in with ds11, and then our whole party will check into 2 rooms at POFQ. Their flight arrives mid-day, but since we will be on property already our plan for the bigger group was to check into POFQ bright and early and then head to MK for the morning. Our 7 day MYW tickets are part of the package so not being able to check in means no park access...that would be annoying!

I called yesterday, both to the hotel directly and the reservations line, and both said it was not a problem. One of the 2, can't remember which-I think it was the reservations line, said that the person not there's key would be held at the front desk and he would get it upon arrival. But the hotel said no problem. HTH.

So, by the rational presented here, it is pertinent for all of the CHILDREN in our party to be present at check-in. What would be the point of paying for a "phantom adult"?

i guess the point of paying for a phantom anyone would be to get the free dining credits... if you're buying one day base tix, the cost difference is nominal from adult to child and if you plan to use the tix w/the "phantom's" name on them, you'd need the ticket suited to the person planning to use it (does that make any sense? if i were planning to use a phantom's ticket, i, as an adult -- on paper anyway :rotfl: -- would need a phantom adult) plus, i guess, that if it were an all adult party, they would not want a child "credit" on their key to the kingdom 'cause they might be limited to children's meals? all that to say, "i'm not sure!" LOL!

jftr, my children are *never* present at check-in... they're either in the gift shop, food court or arcade! usually w/dh! gotta start spending those visa rewards and procure those autograph books asap! :lmao:

Sorry it took me so long to get back, but she had two days, AND I forgot that she no longer works the front desk(she does Magical Express). Anyway, here is the email I recieved from her a few days ago:

"Since I haven't been on the desk since January, I can only tell you about what is common practice at Pop. In general, we prefer just one member of the party to be present at check in. We have so many rooms and the largest front desk of any resort on property, but even given that we often have quite a line and really like just to have one person check in their entire reservation. I do know that once any kind of 'scam' is discovered, the remedy is immediately passed on via email, homeroom meetings, pre-shift talks and postings. I've heard nothing about this 'phantom guests' ruse....."

She stated in a later email that since the Free Dining doesn't start until August, they won't know of any policy change until that time period.

I would venture to say that it's waaayyy too much of a pain in the **** to require everyone to be present at check in and that any suspected "cheating" would be dealt with on a case by case basis. The ONLY way that I can think of to really get by with using "phantom guests" and saving money would be to do as another poster suggested and buy the one day base tix. I would think THIS is what would raise red flags upon check in and that anyone with a package and park tix for several days for everyone wouldn't be bothered. Personally, I wouldn't worry about it unless you are a party who has only paid for those one day tickets.

Makes sense to me :confused3 :goodvibes

That would be us. Some of us have AP's some do not so we all ordered 1 day Tix and will upgrade as necessary. I am concerned as well as my DS is in college and I am not sure what his schedule is yet. We drive down from north FL and we figured he could come when he got out of class that evening if necessary. Oh well...I guess I can call and check. My S-inlaw is also going to be meeting us down there. I will have to call and make sure she will get there at check in time with us.

I wonder if all of those who made up guests will call and cancel them?? or find someone to play the part?

I was thinking this same thing about the one day tickets. Everything else is pretty much cheat free, when the money is balanced out. I am not worried about it at all. :teeth:

The current policy is not necessarily going to be the same for check ins during Free Dining. That policy will be determined by upper management in Food and Beverage and Resort Operations. Believe me upper management is very much aware of what happened last time during free dining. If not why the new directive on the confirmation slip.

The directives for checking in during free dining will probably not make it to the Front Desk CMs until the week of the free dining.

Only time will tell as to what the procedure will be when guest start checking in on August 13.
