Everyone present to check in?

We are going to POP this Sept with our neighbors. They are a family of 5, and we are only 3, so one of their children is staying with us. There is a possibility that we will not all be on the same flight down, and I am wondering, if we get there first, can we check in if the 4th person in our room is not present? Or, do all of the people in the room have to be there to check in?

My wife, 7 year old daughter, and I will be there, we will be missing a 9 year old. We are all doing the free dining package.

Thanks,
Andy

We've got the same problem. My mother is flying in to meet me and Paul for our upcoming trip, but we arrive at 11am - and she arrives at 10pm! I'm really concerned about having a 3 year old and not being able to check into our room until she arrives 12 hours after we get there. (The room is in my name.)

Yikes! Yeah, you are in a pickle. My neighbors haven't booked a flight yet, so this is potentially a non-issue for us, as they may get in before us. I was just wondering, because it is possible that we could have their daughter fly down with us, so we'd have our entire party down there.

My confirmation states "Please note- your reservation includes Disney Dining Plan components. In order to claim these components all members of your party must be present at check-in or your reservation will be modified"

I think that means you will only get the dining credits once everyone has checked in.
I hope you can get your room and tickets eariler.

I hope that is the case. I'm in the same situation my sister is flying in from a different state than us and 5 hours after we arrive.

I believe they don't crack down as a general rule, but for the Free Dining I was told they will be required to see each member of your room. Otherwise they will cancel the person who is not there. I was told it was due to phantom children last time they did Free Dining.

Spoke with my neighbor this morning, and he actually had gone ahead and bought the same airline tix that we did, so problem avoided.

Thanks for all of the comments though, and I hope it works out for the rest of you that are in the same situation.

We've never all been present when we check in. Last year we went with the free dining, I checked in while DH waited in the car with the kids. No problems, they didnt even ask where everyone else was. :confused3

I think this year they are cracking down, as someone said, people last fall were putting "phantom guests" on their ressies for more free dining credits. Our confirmation also says we must all be present at check in for Sept. When we went in May, our confirmation DID not say that, even though we had the dining plan and paid for it.

Anyway, I would explain the situation at check in. I am pretty sure the CM's at the desk would just ask that you please have the others in your party come to the desk when they arrived, and give you til at least the next morning for everyone to show up. They have to realize that some people take different flights, or may be coming from different parts of the country. I can't imagine them making a whole family wait 12 hours for 1 person.

Also, are the other members of your party using ME?? If so, they should be able to easily verify that they are scheduled to come in later the same day.

I would ask at check in and if they get snippy, get a manager. :thumbsup2

Don't you just love it when the abuses of some make it difficult for everyone.

When I post to the hot topics and someone always asks, "What difference does it make to you what someone else does", this is the very reason.

As guests abuse or take advantage of loopholes or try to get one over on Disney, everyone pays, either by being inconvenienced or literally paying for it out of your pocket. :sad2:

I actually was going to add this at the end of my post, but didn't want to :stir: !!

I agree, so many times, everyone loses out because of a few who don't play by the rules. :sad1:

This is really good to know. My cousin who will be sharing the room with us, will not be arriving until much later that night....I am usually the only one who checks in, and hope that not everyone needs to be present, but can totally understand due to abuses why they might be cracking down on this now. I hope to get more clarification on this once the free dining starts again this year. Has anyone seen this happen personally? Where a CM asks where everyone in the party is when you check in??

i've never had to show all my family at check-in... dh usually takes the kids to the arcade while i do all the "boring" stuff! LOL!

Last year during free DP not only did my mom and I check in all occupants of our rooms without them present, they also allowed us to go ahead and check in my sisters family to their room even though they were not going to be there for a few more hours. I did have her confirmation #s though. Of course this was last year.................. :confused3

Last October 3rd, at the tail end of free dining we were checking in--DH and I for our room and DD for her connecting room. DSIL and our grandson were watching the cartoons in the Lobby at All Star Music.
The CM asked my DD to have them come to the front desk so he could also check DSIL's ID and see Alex (our grandson) before he would issue their keys.

The changes to the requirements for checking in with the Free Dining program are "recent" changes. What happened last time during free dining will not affect this new period.

As stated by others this "recent" change is due to the abuses that occurred during the previous free dining period.

1) You MUST all be present to check-in with Dining Plan.
2) There is no such thing as checking-in but not applying DDP credits.
3) Either you are checked-in or not.
4) Too many people invented family members to increase DDP credits.

Boy, am I in trouble. My boys and I will be getting to Disney on a Wednesday, and DH can't get there untol Sat. because of work. I wanted to do the DDP, because I enjoyed it last trip, but this does present a problem. (I even plan to pay for the extra 3 days of his dining credits, even though we probably won't use many of them)

I guess others saw this as a way to add extra meals, I personally want the convenience of the DDP. I think my parents will be at the resort when I arrive, maybe I can let him pose as DH. That won't work if they check ID. Man, how can I do this honestly?????

My family is arriving Late Thursday night and my husbands brother, who is on our reservation, is not joining us until Saturday night or sunday morning and will then be with us the rest of the week. What are we supposed to do?? When I made our ressies I told them about the difference in days (we will be there 9 he will only be there 6) and they said all people on the ressie have to have the same ticket (in our case 9 day pass). :confused3

Wow. I don't know know. Is this for the free dining package? I think it is only the free DDP that Disney is cracking down on. Maybe you should call CRO and find out what their advice is ASP. Maybe DH could book a room at one the values and be taken off your package? It is really is a delima and I do not see an easy, honest solution.
Maybe Disney will let him check in later but without his DDP credits.
I am so sorry and I hope you can get it worked out with Disney.
