Our 1st Disney Family Vacation! My DH , 2 DS's (6&7), and myself. I have been there many times in the past but it has been over 10 years since the last visit.

I know that AUGUST is going to be HOT...... :sunny: But if I hear one more time that we are going to be miserable with the heat and my kids are going to hate how hot it is I am going to scream. I have been so excited to take my kids to Disney that I have been more excited then they are.

Now we have friends that had an Aunt just get back and say how miserable of a time her and her kids had at Disney from the heat. I guess that I am looking for some of you to tell me that it is still going to be fun!!!!!!

We are staying at the WL and planning on taking breaks in the afternoon. We are un decided as to whether to do EMH mornings I know that it will be cooler but some on here say it is to crowded! I thought maybe at MK we would do those and then leave right before or after lunch and do another park in the afternoon.

We are going to be there for 7 days and like I told everyone we will see what we can and just have fun.

Does anyone feel that it is worth there time to go either water park at Disney in August with 2 boys that are 6 & 7 or just stick to the theme parks????

PLEASE HELP

YOU WILL BE FINE!!!! I have gone in August the last 2 years and am heading back again and I have survived. Yes, it is hot but everything is air conditioned. You pop into a ride and you are rejuvinated. I live in MA and this weekend it is going to be in the 90's hot and humid. I would rather be in FLA with the same weather. It isn't as bad as people make it out to be. We have made a habit of spending more time at the pools in the warmer weather, but you will be just fine, don't let anyone spoil your great trip, maybe we will see you there - Enjoy!!

Phewwwwy to everyone. :rotfl2: We almost always go in August and we have a GREAT time. :cheer2: Yes it gets hot but I don't think it's as bad as people think. sssshhh Then again...I like heat. :lmao: Anyway the lines are not as bad as June and July. Have a plan you go to the parks early, come back for a dip in the pool, relax and go back to the parks in the late afternoon it'll will be perfect.

You and your family will have a wonderful time. Let's just hope there are no hurricanes this year. :teeth:

Water parks it depends on where are you staying and for how many days? We haven't done a water park in years the kids usually enjoy the pools at the hotels.

I live in Fl and I'm not bursting anyone's bubble but I can tell you that it is miserably sticky hot in August, even for a native Floridian. I remember one year going to MK in August, drinking frozen lemonades all day, and not going to the bathroom once because I think I sweated it all out. :sunny:

That doesn't mean you can't work around all of that. If you are staying at a nearby resort like WL, that is great! If you can't stand the heat you can easily take the boat launch back and rest in the A/C for awhile. I would suggest taking it easy as much as you can. Plan some sit down meals throughout the day, browse in some shops, enjoy the pool. Notice all of these suggestions involve air conditioning or water, haha. Seriously, I do think you would be miserable if you stayed at the park all day without any break.

The water parks are a great idea and cool way to break up the hot steamy days at the park. You should definitely go that route.

So yes, it will be hot, hot, hot....and sticky humid. Plan plenty of breaks, lots of water, and time for family members to relax out of the heat and you can still have a fabulous time. :)

OOPs just saw your staying at WL. The kids will love the pool and no need to go to the water park.

The weather is what you make it...drink lots of water, buy an ice cream and wear sun block...As long as you dont try to wear jeans/jackets your family will do fine...Plus as they said before every ten steps there is a shop with AC....

We live in Pa and it is supposed to be 88-93 the next few days and very humid. My poor kids have been practicing staying outside as they call it for Disney because they hear people telling me how hot it is going to be......oh well..... I still can't wait. Thank you

We were at WL for a week in late June. It was miserably hot, but it was the best vacation that I have ever had. We came back every afternoon for a break. We got to the parks at opening every day and took a day off in the middle of the week to just enjoy the pool and the resort. My dd's 4 and 6 never complained, I was the one complaining of the heat. Get a fan/spray bottle and be prepared to be hot and sticky the whole week and you'll be fine. We also enjoyed swimming in the pool after dinner and into the late evening.

When we got back to Va. I didn't go outside for 4 days :) - but the 7 days in Disney were worth all the heat and humidity that we had to tolerate. You'll have a great time.

We bought those fans that mist water that are wayyyy too fun and handy!
Like someone else said...you'll drink to stay hydrated all day but not have to take potty-breaks (now, THAT is looking at the positive side :p )
We go in early Sept. and love it.
Have Fun!!!!!

Oh, important P.S. ....Apply deodorant/antipersperant daily ...ALOT of people forget this cruical grooming step, you'll see what I mean (smell what I mean). Sorry to offend those who revel in assaulting us rose-scented folks in crowded lines. Blaaaaaak!! (you can practically TASTE it sometimes!)

Sure it's hot, but you'll still have a great time. We usually go the 2nd or 3rd week in August. We plan a few days where we get up late, have a late sit down breakfast, and then take our time getting to the parks. We then try to do more indoor type of rides (Pirates, Haunted Mansion, most Fantasyland rides, etc) in the hottest hours. On those days, we will tend to hang out in the parks until closing time. It's really quite comfortable later in the day.

I also hear the same "you'll be miserable" speech from everyone, every single year. I just smile, because I know what a great time we'll be having.

I would say that if you had a six MONTH old that YES, it would be miserable (just my opinion based on experience, no flames please) but I think your kiddos are old enough to handle the heat! Get up early and get a lot of touring done before the heat of the day then go back and swim in the afternoon if it gets too bad! Then you can go back to the parks in the evening. We love the water parks! They both have areas which are great for younger kids and tweens!!! When we go during hot weather we always do at least one water park day!! With babies and toddlers I wouldn't bother, but I think yours are old enough to enjoy them if they enjoy swimming and will try some of the not so huge slides!! Have fun!!! Also, you really need to push fluids to avoid dehydration. I find that VERY tough to do with babies and toddlers. One of the first signs of dehydration is nausea. But your kids are old enough to understand "drink this whole bottle of water and you will feel better" KWIM??

also with 2 boys 4 & 6.

Like you getting a bit nervous - but i'm sure it will be so much fun - think back when you were a kid - i know the magical ti mes are usually in the summer.........................

Yes it is going to be hot. It's Florida!!! Bring lots of water to the parks, mister fans, wash clothes...It was hot in May when we went. Ijust would wet down wash cloths for the kids to cool them off. THey thought it was great. I also bought mister fans at Walmart. The kids loved those also. Take breaks. It haas a tendency to rain mid afternoon in August (at least on my last August trip it did! ) And that would cool it down so that it was more pleasant at night. As long as you are prepared for the heat, it will be fine!!!

Everyone tries to burst Disney Magic! I still haven't told my family that we are taking the kids there again, because I don't want to listen to all of the negative comments!!! :cool1:

Have a magical trip!!!!!

If you can get to one of the water parks , they are lots of fun...We try to alternate which one we go to each trip. WE have taken our kids when they were as young as 14 months.

Go and have fun and keep cool...Drink a lot of fluids and find the a/c when needed...and pray for rain!!! It will help cool thing off for a while!! (and knock some of the crowds out!)

:rotfl: What a great way to look at that. We too are going to be there sweating it out with you in August. I know what you mean about getting all the comments. I had a fellow coworker who was retiring no less, leave a comment about the heat in a note she left for me. Oh well. We live in Ohio. So the way we look at it, its better to be hot and miserable anyday in WDW than to be hot and miserable in Ohio. :teeth:

Like everyone else has said..yes it is HOT..we go the last week of August. As long as you know that is will be very hot and prepare you will be just fine. We always get to the parks at opening(not as hot or crowded), take an afternoon break and enjoy the pools.
Water misters are great..bring one from home, they are very expensive in WDW. Wear cool, light colored clothes, and take advantage of the ac in the shops and indoor attractions.
Last year it wasn't much hotter than it was here in NJ..don't let anyone get you down, you will have a blast!!!

:sunny: We are a summer family! Yes it's going to be hot and humid but when you are prepared it's very doable. We have gone to WDW for the past few summers and people have stopped telling us how miserable we will be in the summer. Only one summer were we miserable in the heat, and that was the summer I decided we had to go to WDW even if we camped. Love camping but in Florida in the summer we felt wet and sticky all vacation. Still was a great trip however.

You have gotten a lot of great advice so far. We do AM EMH and PM EMH and have never found them to be over crowded. You have to get there at the beginning of AM EMH and you can walk on the big rides. This makes our touring so much more relaxed the rest of the morning until we have an early lunch and head back to the resort to swim/rest/nap. By early evening we are back in the parks again as a lot of the day crowds are melting out of the parks. Then the evenings are not as brutal since the sun is going down. We are fair skinned and have to really watch sun exposure.

When you get hot and grumpy walk through the stores or see on indoor show. It's amazing how that blast of cold air can rejuvinate you.

Use Fast Pass!!!! It's no fun being face to face with the people who don't use deodorant.

The water parks are great! Your boys will love them. TL has a humongous wave pool and you can snorkle with the sharks. BB has a great family raft ride and fast slides. We didn't do a water park last summer and we really missed it. They now have EMH for the water parks so we are looking forward to taking advantage of them.

Have a great trip. We only have about 20 more days left and we can't wait!!

First can I say hey to mseg16222 I see you are from Dayton Pa, I am from Kittanning! :goodvibes Smallworld! :thumbsup2

Anyway, we went last year in August and yep it was hot hot hot! But we had a blast! :woohoo:
Just be prepared and you will be fine, Like others have said, drinks lots & lots, take breaks when needed, even if you duck into an air condition store or ride for a "break" oh and the spray fans......a little gift from above in the heat! :wizard:
Thats all we heard to, but who cares its Disney! :Pinkbounc
Have a great time

I can't answer for the heat (It is 98 here in CO, but it is DRY) but I can tell you that Tour Guide Mike can give you excellent answers on the EMH and some of your other questions. I'd try his site (just click on the banner here, and get a discount) and then ask for a refund if you don't think it will help you. He will give advice on avoiding the crowds too, so you can get what you want done quickly and then be able to go rest in your hotel or swim during the hot parts of the day.

I have definite opinions (and went during major crowds last year, so I know his advice works!) but I can't post them without violating his privacy agreement.

Somebody made a great point about the deodorant. I take back everything else I said before and will now tell you that the absolute worst part of going in August is leaving the park on a crowded monorail or boat with hot stinky people. With all due respect to other cultures, there are some who apparently do not believe in deodorant at all, even in the middle of August, let's just put it that way.

Whatever you do, do not sit on a crowded monorail at the end of the day. It may sound like a good idea but what you will have is other hot stinky people standing above you holding onto the poles with armpits raised. You are better off the one standing than sitting under those folks for the ride, no matter how tired you are. :rotfl:
