I thought that I would start a thread about discounts that you may not have been aware that you were entitled to.

I wasn't aware that AAA has a prescription discount program that is a part of a regular membership.

Guess what?!!! It applies to "human" medications filled for your pet by a pharmacy! I wish that I had known this two years ago when my pup was first diagnosed with an autoimmune disease! I just saved $9 on her prednisone Rx by showing my card. Given that the Rx would have cost me $34, that's a pretty significant percent savings!

It also applies to human prescriptions not covered by insurance.

• With an Ikea family card, you can get $5 tickets to WonderWorks in Orlando. The card is free to get, but I'm not sure how many tickets it applies to. (Thanks, missnic)
• I just learned that Aetna offers membership in LifeMart.com, which among other discounts, permits you to access TicketsAtWork.
• I've also discovered that there are AARP discounts which may not be published, but a discount will be offered if you show your card at a venue. (Thanks, Sadie22)

How do you get the pharmacy to fill your pet prescriptions..? My cat also has a autoimmune deficiency that has her on steroids and antibiotics since we was 6 months old. I don't even want to think about what savings I may have been missing out on over the last 7 years, but saving NOW and going forward would be great! I always thought it HAD to be done through my vet and the compounders they recommended to me..?!

You can always ask your vet to write you a script rather than purchasing the medication from them. In my dog's case, she was placed on azathiaprine, which is commonly used in humans as an anti-rejection medication for transplant patients, and the prednisone, which is a steroid also used for humans. The vet didn't even carry azathiaprine in his office, so I had to get it through a pharmacy. And my dog is now on such a low dose of prednisone that the vet doesn't carry the low dose that my dog currently takes.

We just got our AAA cards and along with our membership information, there was the prescription information and the online bonus points are worth looking at for me.

Let's see...other surprise discounts. Our kroger always has discounted produce. Managers special. If you find something that is CLOSE to the date, but not marked down, ask and they will mark it down.

We eat mostly vegetarian so that marked down produce is used quickly.

Do you just show your AAA card for the pet med discounts?

Some AAA cards have the prescription discount info printed on the reverse side. If your doesn't, log into your AAA website and follow the discount links to print a discount card. You can also look up participating pharmacies by location and there's a tool for calculating what your medication will cost with the discount.

Costco is also great for renting a car I've learned. And their travel agency gives you about 8% back on Disney cruises.

Check your wireless provider for employer discounts. My state government employee id gives me 15% off my monthly AT&T bill. My husband works for a national retail store, and his discount is 20%. His company gave him a huge list of places where he can get discounts using his employee id.

I paid $51/12 doses (0-25 lbs.). Vet charges about $70. 1800 pet meds is over $60 with a coupon.

To continue on the AAA theme, once when I broke 2 pairs of glasses in one day, I rushed off to Lenscrafters to get a new pair quickly. I didn't usually shop there but I was hoping to get my test done and a new pair in an hour or so. Well, that didn't happen - turns out nobody can fill my script instantly because of the prescription I need.

But I did learn that using AAA at LC was the best deal available at their store. I actually had 2 insurances which they would accept and I carried in their coupon. I used AAA and then submitted to my insurance. It was still not the least expensive option - Costco is for me - but barring all else, AAA was the best way to go at that moment.

Also, when I go to outlet stores, I always stop and get my free AAA discount booklet at their customer service offices at the shopping areas. In addition I pull out AAA just about everywhere and check for pricing. My AAA is usually 'free' for my entire family just in small 10%- 20% discounts over the course of the year. Plus I can get that free tow, jumpstart, gallon of gas, flat tire changed - whatever. Love AAA!

Their ticket prices are less than the discount on UT through the Mousesavers link. There are also other discounts for dining, shopping and travel that I plan to investigate a little more.

Thanks for the reminder to check more thoroughly into these things. The health insurance's associated discount programs are numerous and when I first looked, I didn't have time to go through it all.

Costco offers great prices on Heartgard and Frontline. However, do not purchase the Kirklands equivalent to Frontline as it's the generic to a lesser quality product and has been reported to make some dogs ill.

The Kirklands brand puppy food is highly rated as well and the price is great. However, again, the Kirklands brand adult dog food is not rated as high.

Costco also offers great prices on hearing aids! My Dad just got a set and paid $5600 at an audiologist. The same brand is offered at Costco for half, $2800 and come with some extras. Yep, Dad messed up!

Re pet meds- my Harris teeter pharmacist Abby special orders my dog meds each month. My doggie takes a Bp med but they only carry the capsules. So each month Abby special orders 90 tablets for me. If you ask you learn all kinds of things

what is lifemart? and how do i sign up?

LifeMart is a discount shopping portal that is for members only. For the most part, I found it difficult to navigate and not too many worthwhile discounts were available that I couldn't get elsewhere. But, there is a link under the theme park tickets which brings you to TicketsAtWork.

Log in to Aetna Navigator (the patient portal for Aetna insurance) and hover over the coverage & benefits tab. Click on discounts. LifeMart Shopping Website is in the middle of the discounts. Click on that link and register.

FWIW, there is also a vision discount plan associated with Aetna medical plans. It is also listed under the discounts. You have to use it at a participating location (basically it's any doctor who accepts Eyemed insurance plans). The negotiated fee for me is $42 for a complete eye exam (not just a refraction) and $82 for a contact lens exam. There are also discounts for materials (lenses, frames, etc.).

.10 cents for the first time, .05 after that.
You have to fill your tank (at least 10 gals) twice and on the third visit the .05 can be taken off at the pump.

I've been using this card since last summer. Great way to earn back a few dollars a month.
