Every time ticket price increases, I consider selling our dvc

Does anyone else think this way? Every time the tix price increases, I think about the absurdity of spending $1500-2k for just tickets per trip.

I think about how our DW trip is $6-7k each, even with our DVC.

I think about how the monies might be better spent on another vacation, for the same money or even less.

I think about the fact that our dvc has actually appreciated since we bought, and we should just take the profit now.

But DH said he wants to keep for another 7 more years, until our youngest is 9 years old, before selling. It really is all about the kids sometimes, isn't it?

But I think about selling dvc and no longer going to DW to save money very time the ticket prices go up.

Not us either. I knew ticket prices would increase going into DVC and we would still be going anyways. I actually find our DVC trips cost about as much as other vacations we take, especially if I have bought annual passes.

Sounds like maybe you need a year off. Why don't you rent your points for a year, and try out a different vacation?

We don't think of selling either. When we bought we looked at it that we were locking in our hotel/lodging costs and that all of the other costs would increase throughout the years. We go multiple times throughout the year (live in Georgia so it is an easy drive or short flight even for a weekend) and the annual pass plus our points makes this a pretty good deal for us. But saying that, it is in line with other vacations we take...but on those we have to search for hotel deals and we don't have to do that for WDW!!

When our dollar took a nose dive to 69 cents US we considered selling to make a profit! But the ticket increases don't factor into our decisions. We can always do trips without going to the parks and just use our room as a home base...or go to other destinations like Aulani...or rent out our points and do a cruise! There are other options, for us anyway.

We have two young girls (4 and 2). The ticket increases would have to be a lot to price us out right now, BUT once my girls are older and can't miss school, I could see us renting our points most years and only going every 3-4 years.

We have canceled a points add on and will not be going as much. Our next trip will be no park tickets and spend more time at the resort and other locations off property. Please don't flame me; it's a business decision for Disney, I get it, and it's also a business decision for me.

No flames from me, LOL. If more DVC members took resort only trips and ate off site or cooked in the villa, maybe DVC would get us better discounts on park tickets and dining. They know what we spend when we are there. I personally am not there yet, but I do know there are lots of non-Disney attractions & restaurants in central Florida. Once our annual passes expire, it may be time to start checking those out. :teeth:

WOW. :scared: You must have a large family & own a lot of points or something? Makes me glad now that we only own 250 points! We use studios and usually buy AP's and take multiple trips / year but we've never come close to spending THAT MUCH on a single trip. Even when we went to DL & Aulani we didn't spend that much (and we splurged a lot there). I figure we're spending a little over $6K this year (including annual dues) for 3 family trips (24 nights) and 1 quickie adults only trip during F&W last fall. If we were spending that much PER TRIP then YES, we'd have to consider selling. Guess we're fairly frugal?! Sometimes we fly & sometimes we drive (if I can't find cheap enough flights we drive). We eat breakfasts "in" and will plan about 6 TS meals for an 8 night trip. The rest we'll eat CS. I buy Disney gift cards every week to bring and go down & have them applied at the front desk. I try to bring about $125-150 worth per day and budget accordingly when we're dining or shopping. My goal is to not have to let anything hit the credit card that we put on the room. To balance this $6K annual spending out we'll likely sort of take a year off after our summer trip this year. Our AP's expire in July and DS won't be able to join us so we'll probably just lay back & plan for summer 2017. It will be a long year without any trips but that's sort of what we've been doing all along. We hit it hard every other year & lay out / off inbetween.

The tix price increases and our DS now being in college now will definitely affect how we plan our trips - we'll have to tighten up somewhere and likely only buy AP's for DH & myself from now on but we'll still try to stretch as many nights as possible out of our points & take as many trips as we can on the AP's. Although the AP prices sort of make me gag & choke when we buy them they are such a better deal than the regular park hoppers. I do miss when they more affordable tho.

I still think that DVC (WDW) is a cheaper vacation than cruising or going to Europe or to Hawaii without having access to Aulani. At least we're not spending $200-$300-$400 a night out-of-pocket on hotel rooms.

Guess this increase is Disney's way to pay for that new Hidden Mickey shaped solar panel farm they just built.

We just bought into DVC the past 2 mos into 2 different properties and even with the increase on tickets, we will still own.

I think right now it's only affecting single day passes which we don't buy anyway. And since we only come about once a year (Sometimes 2), it really doesn't affect us that much.

Me too. Every single time. Heck, last year I even thought about not getting any WDW tickets at all and going with a Super Grover Pass at Busch Gardens and Sea World. We ended up upgrading to a Gold AP and I'm sure that my DD won't be able to use it. Thank goodness it was only $75 to upgrade from our 7-day PH.

Yes, it does. We also like to bring family and while they enjoy Disney it's not necessarily an interest that pricing won't be a consideration. I'm going to be giving some strong considerations to our ownership requirements and deciding if downsizing is appropriate.

I used to, but with our son now working at WDW as a Horticulturist, we only need to buy tickets for the two of us. And we still have an AP that I purchased several years ago that hasn't been used yet. We could probably get in on his guest passes, but he has lots of friends and relatives who need them more than we do.

:offtopic:

Does he have an info on where the DVC Mickey and Buffalo topiary from WL/VWL went? :surfweb:
I'll ask him next week when I see him if I don't text him first. I know that they have a Mickey Park Ranger at Flower & Garden that looks strangely like the one from VWL. He did say they may have been taken out during the renovations and to fix them up.

I can fly to Disney and stay a week in a studio cheaper than staying at Ocean City, Md. :)

Yup!!! Especially when I try to buy 3 day park hoppers for 4 of us on Disney website at 10:45pm on Saturday night...try 3 times with red error message but then I go to my credit card website and see, not 1 but, 3 transactions from WDW for the over $1300 a piece (cost for 4 three day hoppers). So I go to bed, since now it's like 11:30, thinking I had 3 sets of tickets and would need to call today to have 2 sets refunded. But, nope! I call and find out that Disney canceled all 3 transactions so no tickets but they'd be glad to sell them to me today for $85 more. I asked to get what I was trying to buy, and my credit card cleared for sale, last night. They refused to honor that sale. So now I may cancel our 4 night F&W trip that these tickets were for (renting out my BWV resie)...or I could pay just $800 for UT Universal tickets for 3 days.
