About 12:30 today we entered the IG. Every guest had to go through metal detector.

I'm sure it's because it was new but it was a cluster you know what

They got confused on what tray went with what guest. Some guest walked off without his stuff and they chased him down

Kids where taken from their families and held by a guard to the side while the Adult went through the scanner. With only a few entering it was manageable for the guard with the kids but heaven help them with this method at a big gate.

We are headed to MK later. No idea is this is the normal or what

Anyone know?

Oh and it took a bit too get through
Again likely due to guest not sure what to do. You just had the bag searched so you put it to the side. Then your head to empty your pocket of any metal then go through, then get your stuff. Again, I can only imagine this process at a busy entrance

The original "policy" was random screenings. But the CSC employees (not gonna call them security by any means) were simply calling guests over for screenings, and most chose to walk right by with no apparent repercussions. I haven't been following this closely since shortly after it was first announced, but yes, it is a total cluster with no real rhyme or reason to the method or personnel being used.

That is had its been on all our other times to enter

This time it was not random. No one could scan their bands until they went through the metal detector. The line was bad

I'll be curious to hear if this happens anywhere else. IG is a minor entrance. Sort of makes me wonder if they're testing the idea to roll out at the main gates.

I have no problems with it as long as they hold the next person through until after you get your bag. I can see someone walking off with another persons bag if they don't.

It really seems like there's a high risk of that happening.

They did not. They may should have but they were not doing it

Well Disney is nothing if not consistent. That's basically how all their other policies are enforced. If the guest says "nah, I'm not going to do what you say" apparently Disney chooses not to push the issue.

And apparently Disney is responding here the same way they have responded to so many other issues...... by changing policy for everyone because of those few.

Or maybe what we saw the last couple weeks really was a first step and this is where they were heading anyway.

Is the metal detector similar to what they had at airports before the full body scan thing? What's the proximity of the detectors to the tapstiles? Sounds like they are going to need a lot more detectors, and a better trained staff.

If every guest had to go through the metal detector, what occurred when the guest was in a wheelchair or ECV and couldn't walk thru the detector?

I would seriously hope they do not take the airport alternative to the metal detector/body scanner.

I just hope they finalize whatever it is they will be doing and offer some parenting information to help having children ready for what to expect. At least with the airport, you can prep a child for what to expect. Having to suddenly "wait with the security guard while parents get scanned" doesn't sound like a great way to start a childs day at the park off.

No it is the older metal only type

No idea. No ECV entered at the time we did

And what is done for children that can't be handed off to security? If someone was wearing their infant into the park, for example? (as we did when DD was young) Would parents be required to take them out of the carrier and then...I guess have the Disney security person hold the infant? (not something I'd be comfortable with, personally, and I would imagine would be liability issues for Disney. The bus drivers that take my DD to school aren't even allowed to pick her up for liability reasons). Or Would they have signs up well before the gate saying all children needed to be in a stroller? Would parents then be required to have non-walking/standing children in strollers, and the security guards then would watch the stroller? (also way too easy for someone to walk off with a stroller that isn't theirs, and I would still think liability Disney wouldn't want).

I guess they have to move towards universal scanning to avoid any complaints of discrimination etc.

Sounds like a real mess though. Not magical but I guess this is the world we live in now :(
