has a stain on it! I'm guessing they are mayo stains - this shirt I just put on I remember dropping coleslaw on it & promptly wiped it off with a baby wipe BUT obviously it didn't work....

WHAT CAN I DO to get rid of these stains???? They all look the same on all my clothes just water looking spots that don't dry!

HELP! I"Ve thrown away WAAAAy too many clothes!

Well, Pop Daddy and Bob have the right idea, BUT, if you have already washed and dried them, the best solution is Shout or Spray and Wash STICK, rub into the stain and let it site for a few hours then wash as normal. Baby wipes don't cut grease, so using them on food droppings is not doing you a whole lot of good. Shout wipes are supposed to be better, but I don't like them either.

A bib? ;) Okay seriously, any time you drop something on clothes that has oil in it (like mayo has oil), here is what you do...treat the stain with a paste of water and baking soda. Let it sit there and dry. Dust off the baking soda and launder as usual. The baking soda will absorb the oil.

I'm nost sure how well this works when something has all ready been through the dryer, but it will help your future clothes for sure. :sunny:

Give up the idea of unstained clothes until the kids are grown  Seriously though, once you've washed something it's hard to get the stain out. DH keep the shout wipes on hand for when he drips on his work shirts and ties. That works pretty well.

I've found for most food stains dishwashing liquid works the best. I treat the spot then rinse with the hotest water possible for the fabric, then wash as usual.

I've had success using Zout on previously stained and washed items. You could try that.

OP, just want to let you know that you aren't alone. It seems like almost every shirt I have has some sort of grease stain on it. I'll have to try some of these methods as they've all been washed and dried.

I am the stain cleaner! I always get em out!

Use powder oxyclean- wet the area first really well, put the oxyclean on it, rub it in good and let it sit over night.. them wash in washer, if not gone do it again. Be careful tho and test material first.

I also use dawn liquid soap- never have to worry about testing material with this. DO same wet the area first really well, put the dawn on it, rub it in good and let it sit over night.. them wash in washer, if not gone do it again.

 Me too! I wore a shirt yesterday to Outback, and thank god the resteraunt is dark, no-one could see my stains... :rolleyes1

Amy D. (can't spell that last name) who wrote the Tightwad Gazette had a formula that she used for getting stains out of garage sale purchases.

I can't remember the exact proportions as she had you do it in a bucket - too hard. I use the washer and put in on soak.

One cup of bleach for colors (no chlorine) and one cup of liquid dishwasher detergent and very hot water. I use the lowest water setting so it doesn't get too diluted.

Mix up the liquids before you add your clothes or you could get spots. Let it sit overnight and then wash as usual. I'm amazed at the stains this gets out that all of the other pre-treatment stuff hasn't.

Agreed! I use powder dishwashing detergent. I haven't let the stuff sit overnight, I may try that for the harder stains.

Do you use dryer sheets? Because those same stains sometimes show up on our clothes (usually dark shirts) and I tend to wonder if it's not the fabric softener sheets causing it? :confused3

Good luck, I hope you can get it out!

All my shirts (except the ones I haven't worn yet) have stains, too! Either from me or my DD (almost 3)..in fact all of her shirts are stained too. Remember PigPen from the Peanuts gang? Even when she comes out of the bathtub she's got a cloud of dust around her and the blankie! She's a cutie though! As for me.....well....all of mt stains land between "lefty and righty!" I swear there must be some type of vaccuum between them sucking the food drippings!!

I, too, must have some kind of magnetic pull in the chest region- food manages to land "right there" nearly every day! DD and DH joke that it can't be a real meal unless Mommy drips something down her front.

I am going to try the dishwashing detergent trick- goodness knows, I'll double my wardrobe if I can start wearing all those stained shirts again!!

A funny remembrance:
My aunt in her 70s was one of those matrons with the buxom shelf - you've seen the type.

One night at dinner she dropped some food that landed on her chest. Her husband said "Can't you keep those things out of the food?"

I only use Dawn dishwashing liquid. It takes out the grease marks, grass stains and with kids..chocolate.

I just rub some Dawn on the stain and launder as usual. The stain doesn't even to be fresh for Dawn to work. When Brad comes home from college, I use it on hs clothes as I launder them. Works like a charm.

Let me wear them. I can bleach all those spots out. Of course white spots aren't much better.lol
I swear no matter how careful I am while doing laundry and working on the pool all my clothes end up with some bleached spot on it somewhere. I have one Pooh shirt that has Pooh, Tigger and Eeyore all looking down at a butterfly and it has a white trail where the butterfly has flown. You can almost be fooled into believing that the bleach spots are part of the trail.
I give up on ever having clothes that are normal looking.

its called doing a mom at our house. I can't seem to eat anything without dripping something down the front of me! I seem to have the best luck with stain stick.

A funny story. We were eating at a local chain resturant and a lady took out a hand towel and pinned it to her shirt! My family about died when she did it, but I thought what a smart brave woman she was!!
