We are a family of 5 & I always say my dream vacation would be a Disney cruise. Are there ever any great deals for families of this size?

It just seems that it is always so expensive at any time of the year, no matter what type of accommodations I look into.

I really don't think Disney offers any really good deals for the cruises at all :( I know that the prices are a little lower in the off season and sometimes you can get a couple of hundred dollars off here and there but it isn't like the good WDW discounts that exist.

I think that with a family of your size you would need a category 4 room or higher so you could all stay in the same room. I know some people with larger familes choose to book 2 low category rooms instead of just 1 high category room. One benefit of that is 2 bathrooms.

I agree that the Disney cruises are expensive even in the off season. Mine was a gift and if it wasn't we would not have been able to really afford it. That said we did have a category 6 room with a verandah so it wasn't like we were in the cheapest room possible. But now that I have had a verandah I wouldn't even consider cruising without one. I have been forever spolied ;)

We have no immediate plans for any future Disney cruises and neither of us have a burning desire to go on another Disney cruise. Please don't think that we didn't enjoy ours - because we did - BUT in my opinion it just isn't worth the money. But don't feel like I am saying that it wouldn't be worth the money for your family - that is just my personal opinion. I know some people - such as inkkognito :) - REALLY love the Disney cruises and go multiple times. It is just like they say - different strokes for different folks :D

You can get a good deal if you cruise off season. They have some cruises listed for $829 per person for a 7 day cruise. Even if you have to rent 2 rooms it still comes out to a little more than $100 per day, all meals included. Here is a list from the disney cruise page.

The following is a list of rates that apply to both of our 7-night cruises. Prices are listed to the right of each stateroom category. You can click on each link to see more information about the stateroom of your choice.

We're a family of 5 staying in 2 cat. 5 staterooms - with 2 teenagers and a 10-year-old it's just too cramped with all of us in one room. We wish we could have gotten a suite (none were available) - it's insanely expensive to have the 2 verandah staterooms. I agree, I wish there was some way of getting a substantial discount like at the WDW resorts.

The popularity of DCL means they don't need to discount a whole lot to fill their cabins. Unless demand slows down and/or DCL acquires another ship to increase available cabins, their prices will stay firm. It's business 101... :( :( :(

the off season, or at least what i believe it to be is usually september through mid december, with the exception of holidays. Then january is typically a lower priced month to go as well. hope this helps.

I have been checking out Carnival and Celebrity cruise line prices. For the stateroom I would want, a verandah, similar to a category 5 on DCL. The prices for these sailings with a verandah are the same or more for a family of 4. So I'm starting to believe DCL isn't more expensive. I do travel in May which is off season and I have to say that DCL is much more expensive for summer months, this is where I see the difference in price. I do see Carnival offering their inside cabins for a more reasonable price, but for verandahs I see comparable pricing. The only thing I wish DCL would do is offer last minute deals like the other lines, but I guess they don't have to.

BOOK EARLY!!! The earlier the better. DH and I booked a cruise for 12/03 at a $2200 discount. If you can book that far out, you're in good shape!!!

Erin :D

One thing to keep in mind...sometimes Disney appears to be more expensive than other cruise lines because of the initial price you see in advertisements or on the actual cruise lines websites. But in reality, Disney includes port charges in their quotes and ads, while other cruise lines (if you read the fine print) state port charges extra.
