so dh was just playing around on the run disney site and searched for everest under "volunteering". On the page it says that the everest expedition challenge will be coming on May 3, 2014. There is no date yet on the everest page though. Do you guys think this may 3 is an official date? has anyone heard? I thought it was strange they would list it on the volunteer page and not the challenge page. thoughts?

I heard somewhere that they might change the Expedition Everest challenge to a longer race, possibly a half marathon.Has anyone heard something about that?

If the race is held in 2014, then May 3 would be the date based on both historical race dates as well as the voluntEar page. Though, I would not make non-reversable travel plans until after the DL half. The program for that race should have some mention of the race date.

I hear that they are looking for a way to spice up the weekend. May is a tough month for road racing in central FLA. Most racing in the area has pulled back to the 5 k length with a handful of 10k's I would doubt that the race would go out to a half marathon length based on that alone. My best guess would be a combination 5 and 10k weekend. Obviously these are my impressions and runDisney has fooled me more than once.

As currently configured, this is not a race that I would have travelled to WDW to run. Too much $$ and too far for a 5k. Now that I am a resident and I am running all races at WDW in 2014, I will run it - though I would like to see something to spice up the weekend. I would love to see a 5 and 10k combo and as a closer to senior runner than young runner - morning runs. Much cooler to run in the morning and less likely to have weather influences.

We've done this for the past 2 years as a father son trip. I think the issue with this moving to a morning race is that historically the draw to it has been the party after the race. Maybe they could do one race in the morning and another in the evening. If they let everyone into the party that would make AK substantially more crowded during the party which would make it much less appealing. I don't see how they could justify the same price for the 5k if they reduced the value of the party by letting a lot more people in.

I enjoy the race and yes, the nighttime after party in AK is a huge draw for me!

It clocks in at close to 10k when you include the scavenger hunt, which I ran through. (Many people walk the scavenger hunt, but still have to cover the same distance). I also like that it is a smaller capacity race. It's unique!

Looking forward to hear what's in store for 2014!

Excited to see some acknowledgement of this event, no matter how tentative. Given the rumored changes, at least it's still described as a 5K with a scavenger hunt on the volunteer page (for now).

Date is confirmed on the Disneyland Half program that went up yesterday, so more good news. Here's hoping for more details shortly.
