If so with good results?
I'm trying to decide if it's worth making that a priority in a dslr. I have really nice lenses that I'd like to use. I've read about stopping down and the focus screen is a bit more of a challenge because there's no split and it's small. Splits not a problem for me I always changed them out. Size might be a problem and stopping down shouldn't be.
Little background, used to do celeb photos by invite so I have some experience. I used 2 Nikon FEs an FM & FA for that. Then for trips to wdw I use Nikons a 3100 & 3200.

Some Nikon dSLR's wont be able to meter with the AI/AI-S lenses. I believe the D200 does and the new D80 is speculated to be able to as well. Not sure about the D70/D70s (don't think it does). The D50 doesn't. That will really be your only problem.

Charade, I have a wide assortment of Nikkors 50mm1.2, fish-eye,macros, wide angles,70-135,80-200,a deep space tele and then some Sigmas & Tokinas. Collected over the years. They all have mounts for Nikon cameras. That's another problem. Do I have to get Canon mounts if I switch brands? Is there an adapter for digitals?
Feeling :eeyore: ish about this

TU :cheer2:
I googled the D80 & found this
The Nikon D80 will be announced on August 9th, 2006. It's an amalgamation of the D200's 10 MP sensor and a few other parts grafted into a D70 body.
August 9th is my birthday!!!!! :cool1:

The D200 & D80 are out of my $range I'm sure. If anything the D70 or D70s body is as high as I think I could go. Do they let you set apeture & fstop the old fashioned way or does it lock up? Not mirror lock up but just not work.
I was considering a switch over to the Canon Rebel from all I've read here it sounds great. I love Nikon and stayed with them all these years because it's quality, the bodies fit my style and lenses. If I can use my old lenses on a new Rebel I'll switch. :scratchin

Anyone using old lenses on new digitals. I'd love to see pics. :woohoo:

Yes, you can use it in full manual. You'd have to set the f/stop on the lens itself and use the camera in M mode and set your own shutter and ISO. As for the potential D80, it will be priced much lower than the D200 ($1699). Some are suggesting about $999 or about the price of Canon's 30D. The D70s can be had right now body only for around the $699 price range. The D50 about $579. D50 has pretty much the same sensor, however it is better at higher ISO's.

Thanks so much for the info. I like that I can use the maual lenses on the D70 or D70s but I like the higher ISO's on the D50. :confused3
I'm going to go check them out tomorrow.

noticed from your sig you have a new addition :cloud9: to your family coming soon  Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have heard the D80 is going to be in the Rebles price range. I have a D50 and I love it. WHish I had known a little sooner about the D80, cause I prob would have waited. Happy early birthday :cool1:

Thanks! We are definately ready for him to come. DW is getting crazy. DS (4) can't wait.

The D80 will be officially announced tomorrow, but it might not be available for sale till closer to x-mas. Also scheduled to be announced are 2 new DX lenses an 18-135mm (no VR) and a 70-300mm with VR. Speculation is that the price on the lenses will be approx $579 and $749 (or 299 and 399 in British pounds). That is a possible suggested retail so actual prices might be more like 499 and 699 USD (I hope. Thats more my price, though the former isn't to bad either). But we'll know soon enough.

Don't know if I can wait till Xmas. I have a trip in Oct that would be a real trip with a camera like this. The lenses sound very good also. I wonder what they'll kit it with :confused3

Pre orders are being taken now at just about every camera shop. Lowest price for the 70-300mm w/VR I've seen so far is $529 at Ritz. $399 for the 18-135mm just about everywhere. The D80 looks to be $999 body only at most places. I'm guessing the "official" kit lens will be the 18-135mm. Looks like amazon has a D80 kit w/ the 18-135mm for $999 pre order price.

According to Nikon's web site, these new items will be available for shipping in Sept. Most camera stores are saying October. Thats cutting it close for you, but you never know.
