Ever "Too far"?

People have different opinions of certain rides or attractions "switching over" and becoming something else (MTWR, Maelstrom, etc). How far is too far when retooling a ride or attraction?

This may be a bigger deal for attractions that are meant to teach us a little as well as entertain....

For example, if HOP were ever changed into something like, "Champions of Humanity", "Great Leaders of the World", or "Global sports legends" to appeal to a broader audience, would people care? If, like what is happening in Norway, the American Adventure received an overhaul, and now Captain America was going to have his own ride there to replace the animatronics stage show (immersive new ride, perhaps the flags and various statues were updated with statues of various Avenger's busts), would that be ok with people?

Of course there could be "too far". Like if they rethemed the Haunted Mansion based on the Roseanne Barr-voiced film "Home on the Range".

LOL. Maybe HM is too scary for some? Replace with various Disney cartoon characters in ghostly form? Replace spooky voice with Chip and Dale? Nah...

If they change a ride or attraction and I don't like it, I just won't go on it anymore. I don't have any ownership over the attractions at WDW, so I don't really understand the concept of feeling like they've "gone too far." They'll do what they think is best, and none of us really have a say.

Agree but disagree. Disney can do whatever they want, yes. But that doesn't mean that it will cross an invisible line that some people have. That is what I mean. If Disney execs decided that a big franchise like the Avenger's or Star Wars is their huge money maker, and did something crazy like re-theme everything in the Magic Kingdom to fit that theme, I would guess people would think they had gone "too far". Allowed? Yes. But in the minds of many, gone "too far" I would think. That's my point.

I might be the exception but changing Hollywood studios basically into Star Wars Land is to far for me. I'm not a follower of Star Wars, I don't think it fits the Disney World "character" model. HS definitely needed to be updated as many of the attractions/shows were basically abandoned and shuttered. It took Disney how long to update the pre-ride on the Great Movie Ride, but they still haven't updated the actual ride. I realize that there are many that are thrilled I'm just not one of them.

The tendency to convert old standards like the River of Life in Mexico and Maelstrom into advertisements for Disney movies and cartoons is 'too far' IMHO. Stop pimping the rides!

The best thing I can say about the American Adventure is that it was 20 minutes in the air conditioning. I would kill for a Captain America ride in there instead. Or a poster. 20 minutes of a Captain America .gif projected onto the wall. I don't care. Anything.

Seriously, though. That being said: as a previous poster mentioned, if I don't like a change (or a current attraction) I just skip it. Cars Land instead of Toy Story Land might have killed me at DHS, though.

I'm already getting turned off by the amount of Star Wars heading into DHS. I don't really need to see Storm Troopers marching around or a Star Wars stage show. It sounds like SWW every day and, while I liked SWW, 1 day immersed in Star Wars was enough for me. Hopefully Toy Story Land will balance it out a little bit, but Disney has definitely veered quite far from the original idea of DHS. My opinion? Oh well. If it doesn't appeal, I just won't go. There are plenty of other things in WDW I'll enjoy.

I am anxious to see what they've done with the Norway village portion of the new Frozen section in EP WS. We visited many of the folk museums on a recent trip to Norway and if they have tried to replicate some of the old Norwegian architecture, it should be lovely.

I get it, but I don't understand the point of drawing an imaginary line in the sand. If the time comes that I no longer enjoy a ride, I won't ride it. And if the time comes that I no longer enjoy WDW, I won't go. But I can't just say, "well, if the change ______, I'm done." I think that kind of thinking is silly. If something changes, I'll give it a shot - maybe I'll like it, maybe I won't.

My point is that, whether people realize it or not, everyone has certain standards or expectations. To say everyone is completely open to change is a hard sell.(Sometimes, you may even know you don't like it, without having to try it. Sometimes not.)

This has nothing to do with throwing child-like tantrums, or wondering why one opinion doesn't win over Disney execs. Obviously the world does not revolve around each individual. But together, if enough individuals feel like something is moving in the wrong direction, I would also suspect that will have an eventual impact. I am looking to see if there is a general consensus on what most people think of as "unwanted", in the light of some recent controversial moves, be it changes to DHS, Norway, etc.

Personally I think the Frozen thing in Norway really doesn't belong. Sure, Arendelle was somewhat based on old Norway but still. It's like, "here's a fake country to replace the real country that used to be here!"

And I think Captain America also would not belong in the American Adventure (even though I like the movies).
