Ever taken a cab to Cable Beach, tell me everything

Rachel, thank you! You have been so helpful on this thread, I appreciate it. ok, one more question...if we decide to not bother with getting lunch from rm. service (I really don't want to bother packing a collapsible cooler in our luggage for one small excursion), is there a poolside lunch place, you know, with just hot dogs or something simple to feed the kids? Even if its snacky, like nachos, that would be good.

So when we get on this bus, do we just get off the ship and then what...take a right, left? thanks again!

When you get off the ship, you have to go through a building that holds a shopping bazaar. Once outside, you walk straight to the main street, Bay Street. You will be able to follow the crowds--almost everyone's going that way. Then you turn right on Bay Street and walk a couple blocks to Haagen Daaz where the busses park--you'll see them. I know the Nassau Beach Hotel has a bar on the beach, but the kitchen has never been open when I've gone.

If you take a cab, do you ask to be brought to Cable Beach or to the Wyndom hotel?

Bumping this up, since there is another more recent question about cable beach.

Really glad to have found this "secret" on how to have a great day in Nassau--this gives the cost of all the elements, i.e., the towels, chairs, cab, bus, ...don't suppose the blonde in the bikini in the photo is available at any price,

--oops, did I really type that? Good thing DW doesn't visit the DIS boards...seriously, great contributions to the Board everyone, many thanks.

Just added ressie for Wonder, was looking over excursions because I had been totally unimpressed w/ Nassau last time, and this is just what I think I will do! So thanks everyone--see you at Cable Beach Wyndham.::MickeyMo :earseek:

DH, DS and I just returned from a 3 day Wonder sailing. We took the advice of these boards and went to Cable Beach during the Nassau stop. Getting a cab was easy. It cost us $15 each way to get from the port to Cable Beach. The taxi driver dropped us off a the Wyndham Hotel on cable beach. We walked throug the hotel's lower level and went right out onto the beach. There are beach chairs with pads which are free for the taking. Towels, however, were not available. You had to have a hotel "towel card" to get beach/pool towels. So be sure to take your own from the ship before you head down there! The weather was quite warm through, so we were able to dry off quickly, without using a towel. There is also a large pool at the hotel that we took advantage of too. That worked out great for our DS, since he is still in diapers and DCL doesn't allow kids in swim diapers in the pools for health reasons.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

Thanks for the updated report! We are thinking of doing this in December. I have two questions, does DCL give you extra towels to bring ashore as you are leaving the ship? And where did you eat? Thanks!

How long was the cab ride and how many people?

Was it $5 per person?

No DCL did not hand out towels as you left the ship. You would have to bring your own beach towel from home, buy one in Nassau, or take a few towels from the pool deck on the ship and just put them in a beach bag.

As for eating, there are restaurants in the hotels on Cable Beach. We just packed snacks and bought beverages once we were there. We only stayed a few hours because DS got tired, so we headed back to the ship around 1:30pm and just ate lunch onboard after we put him down for a nap.

The cab ride was about 5 - 7 minutes (there was some road congestion near the port and shopping areas). Definately too far to walk though.

The cost was $5 per person...there were three of us, 2 adults and 1 child.
