I serve on an important regulatory body at the university, and we have been taking a lot of flak for some of the regulations we impose upon faculty and staff at the university as enforcers of federal laws. The issue has begun to really hit home the past several months and I have been under a lot of pressure from colleagues to advocate a challenge to some of the policies. After reading carefully all of the federal regulations we are charged with enforcing (I knew that legal training would come in handy some time!), it was my considered opinion that we were not correctly enforcing the regulations and were making life unnecessarily tough on our colleagues. I was roundly booed, was forced to get nasty in going to the mat for my position, and was chastised twice by the board's legal counsel. Well....they contacted the feds today and my position was precisely and inarguably the correct one and the correct legal opinion (though not being a lawyer I can't give a legal opinion ;) ). Given that it was a very nasty and very drawn out meeting, I take special satisfaction in being vindicated and in successfully challenging the way that the policy has been interpreted and enforced for lots of years.

Just needed to share. BTW, many of my colleagues now consider me a hero because I have likely saved them hours and hours of work every year. ;)

yes, one of my more unfortunate personality traits is that i love being proven right. :p

just ask my husband, it seems to happen a lot. LOL ;)

Way to go Dr P!
You have the right to be downright SMUG, never mind satisfied ;)

:teeth:

You go! :)

Unfortunately, at work, when it's time to say "I told you so," a pet is dead or on death's door. :( So, no, I don't take great joy in it. And still, the people don't seem to get that it was their fault for not following directions... in their head, it was up to us to come up with some magic potion that is easier or cheaper

In my private life, YES, I have a little party in my head every time that happens. It's never happened with something THAT significant, though!

I really hate to because it's not the humble way to go BUT... :teeth:

it has happened so much at my job lately I can help but wonder if someone up there REALLY likes me!

I can't imagine anyone boooing Doctor P! Boo on them!!

Gee...wish it would happen to someone at home often!!!!!! Well, maybe it happens, but when it's brought up the person that is being told - I told you so - doesn't like it very much!!!!!

LOL Chris!!! Maybe now that he's "seen the light", he'll let you enjoy it when you're right, which I'm sure is all of the time! :teeth:

It's a good feeling isn't it, to be vindicated in situations like this? Good for you!

Yep, but I try to hide it. Most of the time.

After writing the original thread, I had the pleasure of going downstairs to one of my colleagues who has always come through for me in a pinch (and this has been a lot the last few years), even when she did not have time or energy, and tell her that I had helped remove one of the true annoyances in her life these past few months. I said, "you have done so much for me these past few years, it's a real pleasure to tell you that I think I can pay some of it back today." After hearing what I had to say, she said (seriously), "no matter what I have ever done to help you in the past, that is repaid, and I guarantee you I feel like I am going to have to work several years to pay back what you did here. I only wish I could have been a fly on the wall to hear it and see it." It made going to the mat worth every risk and every stressful moment.

Yes, and sometimes, it is not a good feeling but other times...:p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p

Yeah & I'm not one to let people know that I was in fact right...and they were wrong

But sometimes I'll use a simple "nanny-nanny, boo-boo...stick yer head in doo-doo" ;)

We often drove past the new stadiums in Houston as they were being built and every time we drove past I said, "Where in the world are all these people going to park? Houston never plans ahead."
You probably read about the fiasco opening day at Reliant Stadium.
I told you so.

Hey Dr. P......does this involve IRB or IACUC? If it does, triple kudos to you. These committees (yes, I was on IRB and am currently on IACUC) are thorns in my side!

Val....I'm guessin you are right....IRB!!!!!! I'm pretty sure that's what he would be talking about but I could be wrong. He's on several different committees but my guess it's the IRB!!!! Sometimes you end up hating the IRB!!!!!!

Yes, it is indeed the IRB. Funny thing is that the reason I am even on the IRB was an ongoing battle with the IRB that ended up in expanding its membership (and I really couldn't say no after the stink we had been raising). I got into trouble for (accidentally) failing to submit a project to the IRB (though I actually had submitted about 15 others that year) that probably did not require IRB submission in the first place. I have been on the IRB for about 18 months now (and have generally behaved myself and have taken advantage of just about any training opportunity I can get). ;)
