Ever stop to think about "coincidences" and "what ifs"?

My DH is training to do another marathon, so he does long runs once a week. He started to do it last night (Tues), but after a few miles decided that he just wasn't in the mood to do it that night.

So, he decided to do it this morning. At approximatley his 15th mile, as he was running by a house, he could hear "Help! Help!", so he checked it out. An elderly, heavyset woman had tripped and fallen (out of sight of the road) and couldn't get up. Fortunatley, she was not hurt, but DH had to call 911 to get assistance to help her up. He stayed with her until the officer came and helped to get her up.

I am a big believer in "coincidences" actually being events planned by The Big Guy. I keep thinking ...if he had ran a 1/2 hour earlier or had done his full run last night.....no telling how long that poor woman would've sat there before someone found her. Anyway, I told him he did his good deed for the day and could just relax the rest of it. LOL!!! Of course, he said "I can't relax until we go to the doctor!" and then doc tells me to take it easy. So much for his relaxing day!!

It's been proven to me many times that there are certain significant things that are meant to happen in my life - things that I have no control over. Fortunately, and especially lately, these things have completely changed my life for the better. But no amount of prior planning would've caused these things to happen otherwise - it was just meant to be.

There are no coincidences, only angels. Your DH was an angel today, he listened to God's promptings and he didn't even know it. Miraculous!

I'm glad that your husband was able to help that unfortunate woman, but I don't believe that it was a divine "coincidence". In the same fashion, I don't believe in pre-destiny or the powers of voodoo. I DO feel that life is all about self-actuation; we have really unlimited potential to improve ourselves and help those around us.

If I felt that the course of an illness (or pregnancy ) was pre-ordained, there would be little reason to devote myself to the care of the sick. JMHO..........

I believe that God uses us all in the way that He has planned. If we fight against His voice and do our own thing then the Plan is not fulfilled and we are left wanting more or someone misses something. If we listen to His voice and follow His plan then everything is as it should be. I think this is what happened to your DH. It is Miraculous when it happens. I have felt many times in my life the Angels stepping in and helping out. And when I sometimes don't listen to Him then he has to Yell to be heard. Only after I realize this am I at ease and find true happiness.

Tell your husband congratulations he was used as an Angel today.Not too many people can say that.

Yes, it was a good thing he was there to help. In a way though, I'm a teeny bit skeptical about all this angel stuff however, because there are so many really horrible things that happen every single day and no one is there to help them. A child who is molested by a trusted priest or teacher, a woman whose husband hunts her down and kills her b/c she is divorcing him, a man jumping in the lake drowns trying to save someone else... it's hard for me to understand why things happen, some good, some bad. I guess it's just a matter of being glad for the good things that do happen.

I am a believer in everything happens for a reason. Years ago, when I was young and invincible, I never wore a seatbelt. One night I had a really bad feeling for the whole night and I kept nagging then BF to slow down, drive careful, blah blah blah. He thought I was crazy and I finally put my seatbelt on and said "I dont want to die tonight". After dropping off a friend we were on the way home and a car on the other side of the road hydroplaned. It hit us head on. The car was totalled, BF had the airbag so he was ok, but the police said if I hadnt had my seatbelt on I would have been through the windshield and probably dead.

Directs but does not force. We choose to follow his will and that is why there is hate and sorrow in the world. Too many people choose not to listen and follow.

And Silky, not everyone who believes in God believes in predestination (or as you call it pre-ordained), I believe that He gives us free will and nudges us in the direction He would like us to go, but it doesn't mean we have to listen.

I believe that some things are just ment to happen, and there is such a thing as fate.

God speaks to all of us but some of us choose not to hear him. This also is God's will. He did not want unthinking automatons.

I don't believe in "fate". Perhaps I've simply seen too much pain and suffering over the years. When a small child dies of a brain tumor, I don't see the "hand of God" having a role. When a young family is wiped out by a drunk driver, I don't see the "hand of God" having a role. Perhaps others can find divine intervention in all of life's events. I can't..........

See, I can see God choosing to cause things that seem horrible and unfair. I don't claim to know the reason, but I do believe He does it with purpose and that the purpose it ultimately good. It seems that "bad" things happening is one of people's biggest stumbling blocks to believing in God, doesn't it?
