Okay, so I was thinking about something that happened three years ago. I can remember when it happened because it was shortly after my youngest was born. My older girl had wanted a cowboy hat because for some reason she was really into cowboys at the time. We searched and hunted, but found nothing... then one day at Toys R Us (which we had already checked) we found cowboy hats. They were not cheap, but dd wanted it, and ds wanted what dd got, so we let them get the hats.... and we let them wear them in the store. We continued to shop, searched the cheap racks of clothing... checked out, left..... was looking at the reciept on the way home because the amount didn't seem right. Sure enough "They overcharged us for the shirts", but that still wasn't right, if we overpaid for the shirts it should have been much higher. Finally I look over at the kids and notice those hats sitting on their heads, nice and unpaid for.

Now I could have taken them back the next day I had off (no time that day).. could have asked them to fix the shirt prices, and payed for the remainder.... could have, didn't. First I was embarased, and second I figured they'd probably jab me on another trip by not taking off a sale price... no biggy, I rarely complain when a store does that..... anyway please tell me I'm not alone. Tell me your accidental thefts, and did you return the stuff?!!

I'm just here to watch! You are very brave! ::yes:: :rotfl2:

I forgot to pay for a pretty expensive meal once. It was in a bar, the kind of place where you usually pay when you order, but the girl taking my order made me open a tab, even after I asked her not to.

Anyway, we ate, spent about another 30 minutes talking, then left. It wasn't until I was almost home that I realised what I'd done. Now I demand that I pay when I order in a place like that. I know that if I don't, I'll just do the same thing again.

My Mum stole one of my Christmas gift last year in pretty much the same circumstances as the OP. She picked up an overnight bag and put it over her arm. We continued shopping, paid for everything else, then left. We only realised when we checked the receipt at home.

I went into a needlework shop and needed two small skeins of embroidery floss. I found what I needed right away and started to browse. Then, I realized that no one was there! The lights were on, music playing on the radio. I walked around calling, "Hello, hello?" No answer. Looked in the framing room, no one. And then I got really weirded out thinking that someone could be lying dead somewhere. (I know, I know, stitching shops aren't a big place for hit men.) But I was really scared. So, I ran out to my car and took off. Halfway down the road to my doctor's appointment, I saw I was clutching the two skeins of floss in my sweaty hand (retail value $5).

I fully expected to hear sirens or have the cops burst into the doctor's office.

I've never done anything like this before. So, I took $5 put it in a plain envelope and mailed it.

Yes I have. I was at Wal-Mart one day and I picked out an eyeliner pencil. I knew my lap was going to get a little full (but I didn't need a cart) I stuck the pencil between my knees, like you would a Coke. Well I paid for my purchases and went to my car. When I was trasferring into my car, the pencil was sitting in my seat. It had fallen and I had been sitting on it and I didn't know it. I got back in my chair and went back in and stuck it back on the shelf. OOPS!!!

The only thing that I have accidentally stolen and not bothered to return to pay for is a pack of KoolAid. I stick them in the seat part of the cart, and I guess when I was sticking them in, one got shoved into a side pocket in my purse. I forget to pay for stuff in the bottom of the cart all the time. I always go back in and pay for it though. You would think that cashiers would check, but I guess they don't. I also forgot to pay for gas once. I was a teenager, and I pumped my gas, went inside and ran into some friends, started talking, and left. I was about 30 minutes away when I realized what I had done, but I went back later that night and paid for it. Luckily, one of my friends was the cashier that night, so it was no biggie. Really though, I think that probably we have all gotten something stuck behind something else and got it for free without realizing it. We are also all overcharged from time to time, so it all evens out in the long run.

I went to home depot and bought a cartfull of stuff. It came to over 800.00 so I just paid and went home. When I got home and looked at the receipt I did not see the 2 new ceiling fans that were sitting in my living room on there...he charged me for everything but those and charged me twice for another item!!

Never anything big. I think there's been a time or two where something little was left in the cart (small enough to fall in the cracks or slots).

Definitely, if it was more than a couple of dollars, I would have taken it back and paid for it. I'm too afraid of karma. :teeth:

One of my friends accidently stole a small bag of candy. It was chocolate covered something-or-others. She opened the bag while we were walking around the Wal-mart and was eating them. She told me, "No big deal, I'll pay for the bag when we get up front." Well, she totally forgot until we had driven away and noticed she was still holding the empty bag.

Yes. I was shopping with my then 1 yr old niece. She was in her stoller, you know the kind with the big basket on the bottom. There was no way I could push a cart & that stoller, and I only needed a few things. So I used the basket of her stoller. Checked out, got home & realized I hadn't paid for a small item (I think it was a bag of salad). I felt terrible, but I didn't go back. So I involved my innocent niece in my life of crime!

The one time I can remember not paying for something was when I was at WalMart. I picked up one of those Goody hand mirrors and put it in the cart and went shopping. I had just moved into my new house so I remember I was buying big stuff like totes, mirrors that fit on the doors and stuff like that that wouldn't fit into a bag. So, the cashier checked me out and just put the stuff back in the cart, she didn't event try to put it in a bag because it wouldn't fit. Anyway, I paid for the stuff and headed out. I was unloading my stuff and got to the bottom and their was that hand held mirror. I was on my lunch break so I had run out of time and didn't take it right back in at that moment to pay for it but the next day on my lunch break I took it back to pay for it. If I had been stopped bringing it back in (like they do when you are returning something) I would have told them what had happened the day before but because I didn't steal it on purpose I didn't feel a need to seek a customer service rep out to "confess" to them my transgression. Luckily, no one stopped me on the way back in so I just jumped in the Express line, paid for it and was on my way. I then felt much better. :goodvibes

Not the samer thing but something similar. My friends and I were at a local fun fair and we needed change for the games machines. My friend gave the cashier a £1 to get some 2p's he needed for the machine. But the cashier gave him £5 worth of change back. We just stood there obviously looking puzzled so the cashier said "Oh sorry I gave you the wrong amount of money back didn't I?" So being honset we said that she had indeed done that and gave her the £5 back. At which point she gave us £10 worth of change! We were teenagers at the time and we figured that we had already pointed out her mistake once and given her chance to fix it so we walked off. However we felt so bad about it that we spent £1 on the games and gave £9 to a charity place that we passed on the way home.

Thrawn: Fat? Well I used to be but I delt with that one (see sig). Lazy? Well I work a 55 hour week, am studying for a masters degree and spend my free time working as a volunteer at our local theatre where I also perform in shows, usually dancing.

Wow! It's been a while since I've seen a real, authentic troll in action!

:lmao: :rotfl2:

I've also had an eyeliner mishap. I was walking around the store once and I couldn't get the pencil to stay in the cart--it kept rolling out. I finally put it on my purse and went back to my shopping. Weeks later I was dumping out my purse and there it was. I didn't bother to take it back, so I guess I'll be burning for all eternity! :teeth:

2 times stick out in my mind.

1-the banana incident. took ds then a toddler grocery shopping and grabbed a bunch of bananas. i turn my back and 'monkey boy' grabs ones and eats it. since they charge by the pound i'm at a loss as to how to have cashier charge for it-so i grab a single banana and when i got to the cash register i tell the cashier i only want the remainder of the bunch but to charge me for the one single. when she saw the 'evidence' (peel and sticky toddler) she said not to worry about it.

2. chevy's restaurant food. with some regularity we order to go. i usualy check the bags pretty well because we've been shorted items or given the wrong orders in the past. this particular evening it's pouring rain, they have to change the order cuz they ran out of something-so when the bag comes i'm cold, tired of waiting....and i ask the server "are you certain this order is correct-the bag looks a lot fuller than usual". she assures me that they ALWAYS double check the to go orders. i drive all the way home, give the kids their food, go to get dh's and mine...and there are 2 extra dinners and an appetizer. i was not going to drive all the way back and pay for them-nor was i going to drive all the way back just to hand them over and have them tossed in the garbage (which legaly since it left the restaurant they had to do). so-i tossed them in the freezer and they were eaten at a later date.

It's happened to me too twice .
When empting the cart at checkout, I saw i left something very small once i got to the car.
once was thread and other was a tweezer.

A month or so ago I took a walk to the playground with the kids. On the way home we stopped at a small market to pick up a few things. I ran out of room in the handbasket so I gave DD who was sitting in the stroller a can of tomatoes to hold. I paid for everything and started walking home which is blocks away. We got about halfway there when DD said "mommy I don't want to hold this can anymore" .

Moron going to hell here :wave2: :rotfl2:

One night Dh and I went out to a Chinese restaurant, everything went great until I went to leave. As I walked through the place to exit I noticed alot of servers starring at me so I start looking to see if food is on my shirt and feeling my face for any smears of food ,nothing!Ok,well maybe I have something hanging out of my nose.So I rush to the car and reach to pull down my visor mirror and end up with a lap full of Pepsi.Yep,I had stolen one of the their glasses!Of course my fat lazy butt was to embarrassed to take it back inside :lmao:
