Ever had a trip balloon out of proportion?

I have to show this to my family who think I'm completely nuts when I start changing things around! I'm not the only one...ha

Last year's trip started with ASMO for 7 nights and buy 5 day PHP tickets. Then we find out about the 7/4 FTP so here was the choice: get money back and keep the current ressie or upgrade to a moderate for the same amount I had already paid. So my mother (my traveling companion) said why not upgrade? We justified it by thinking my two small DD will not tolerate being in the park a long time so we'd be spending more time at the resort. Done deal. We didn't spend any more money just didn't save any.

This year we were going back with the original ASMO idea for 7 nights and buying 5 day PHP passes. Then I find out about the Swan/Dolphin RN discount and my mom said go for it, can't beat the rate. So we book the Swan and put the deposit down. I find the DIS boards and find out about the 7/5 deal. Hmmm...how can I take advantage of this? Why not the POLY?? I've always wanted to stay there but it's never been within my budget. Although it was costing 500 more than the Swan trip I figured this would be my last chance to stay there because my girls will not get in free anymore after this trip.

Booked the Poly 7/5 package. Then here comes hurrican Frances, the flight was getting canceled for Saturday but Airtran was letting us change at no charge. Why don't we go earlier?? Got a ressie at ASMO for Friday night.

We were planning a return trip for next year with two more adult family members added. So we're talking about two rooms at the ASMO, renting a minivan and driving down.

THEN: my husband decides he wants a vacation (after 5 years of nagging him) But he doesn't want to go with us next year for two reasons 1. He doesn't like my mother and 2. It's too hot.

Him: "What about December?"
Me: "I'm not waiting until next December to go"
Him: "No silly THIS December"
Me: "OK!"

Don't have to pull my arm! So he says to take care of everything since I've been before and he hasn't. I ask him what budget range we're talking about and he said inexpensive. So I'm looking at Pop.

A week later he signs an enormous contract for a substantial amount of work/money for his business. So he changes his mind and said to book the Poly for 4 nights Dec 15-19! I check on airline tickets and find out it is cheaper to come back on a Monday SWA instead of Sunday, so he said okay 5 nights. I got the fall/holiday rate at the Poly. Put the deposit down and we're good to go. Oh...I also bought the tickets for MVMCP that he doesn't know about I guess he'll find out when he gets the CC statement...oops.

THEN: Yesterday he informs me that he needs high speed internet access so he can check on the business and stuff since we're going to be away for 6 days. The Poly doesn't have that access. He said it doesn't matter the cost he needs the access. So now we're looking at changing to the GF!! And he wants to fly first class instead of coach. So much for inexpensive!

So that's where we're at now. Oh...the trip for next year has also started to balloon. We're talking about flying, since we found out the rates from Indy are much cheaper than Dayton and we're going to stay at the Swan with the RN discount. We'll see how that turns out!

Hello, I'm Hightown and I am a WDW-holic.

Lots of company with this affliction!

Last year had a 6 night stay at CBR turn into 7Night Fairytale package, YC Concierge, Waterview.

Then last November, I bought the deadly APs to make a spur of the moment trip to AKL C for 5 nights. The APs saved 1000 off the room for those 5 days and figured we'd certainly go back once in 2004.

So what has happened, have used my AP and good airfare to go back twice this year.

I have to admit I scaled my November plans back consideraby. Conc at HRH and AKL changed to Poly GV and HRH Std room. BUT don't applaude my savings! That was only done to finance a OCT trip. lol (And truth be known, if I could find a discount for my dates back at AKL C, I'd grab it)

Fun thread. Confession is good for the Soul...

:hyper: This thread cracks me up! It sounds like me!

We had such a great trip last October that my husband agreed to a quick trip this December. This was supposed to be our LAST trip in many many years! My parents were going to go too and we were going to drive to save money. Well, cheap airfare came out so we booked it! We were going to stay at SOG for 8 nights, but we wanted to experience a disney resort so we booked 3 nights at the YC. Okay....getting more expensive here....

Well, after seeing AP rates, I talked my DH into all of us buying an AP to take advantage of the discounts. Soooo we bought four AP's. (There was a method to my madness in buying AP's for all of us.) Then I talked DH into going back next June to take advantage of the AP's. Ok then, add a second trip onto the first trip! :teeth:

Then I thought, "wouldn't it be neat to spend the girl's birthday at WDW!" Add two more trips within the next year! I promised DH that in January we would stay at PC to save money. Well, now my parents are going and they would like to stay at a Deluxe. Ok, no problem here! :hyper:

Now, that quick trip in December staying at SOG has turned into 4 trips! The kicker is that I never needed my AP rate for this December at YC b/c I got an e-mail from Disney for the same rate. Sshhh! Don't tell my DH that we really never needed the AP's. I'm so happy though b/c we now have four fun trips planned! He is wondering how I talked him into this.

:hyper:

Our usual ten day fall trip has expanded to 16 days because I want to see more of the old bands from my era. Checking in when the Beach Boys arrive and checking out after Three Dog Night. If we could affod it we would be staying for over 30 nights so I could catch Chubby Checker again. LOL

SG/Linda

my trip started off at $1500. , now its $4775.
we were staying at POP now AK. not to mention the $80 in phone charges calling 407- and $100 extra to change within 16 days of the arrival.
Ad its worth every penny!!! :earsboy:

Yep, me too.

DH wanted to ignore his birthday this year.

A small dinner party with friends? No
A low key family gathering? No
Hamburger and a movie? No
A trip to Disneyworld? YES! Where else on earth could we go and get younger!

Okay, we'll go for a long weekend - his birthday is on a Thursday. But the crowds will be heaviest on the weekend. Hey, wait a minute, my birthday is on Tuesday that week. Okay, let's go Tues-Thurs. Its an awfully long way to go for two nights and three days. So we'll go for the week. I'm happy.

We've only been there once (AKL) and loved it! What the heck, let's splurge on concierge - after all, it *is* both of our birthdays. Then we can do the sunrise safari. Hey, wait a minute, I can save a pile of money on our room if we buy an annual pass. That's at least enough to do the Segway tour of Epcot, too. I'm very happy.

I suddenly realize we haven't seen our friends from Las Vegas for quite a while. I wonder if they'd like to join us? They sure do, and let's have it be a surprise for DH. I book them into AKL concierge, sunrise safari and Segway tour. Cool.... that AP really comes in handy.

Don't you think a guy celebrating his birthday at Disneyworld needs to drive a convertible? Me, too.

And don't you think an Illuminations cruise would be a great way for him to find out our friends are here? Me, too.

Oh, don't let me forget the lunch with an Imagineer! He's really going to be surprised by that one.

What? Our neighbors are going to be there at the same time? Great, join us for a combined birthday dinner at Narcoossee's, timed so we'll see Wishes.

No, you're kidding... our best friends who left the snow for sunny Florida are going to be in Orlando at the same time for business? Oh, you must come to dinner at Narcoossee's, too.

You know, I think we need Cinderella slippers, chocolate Mickeys and tuxedo strawberries for that dinner. And it would be such a nice touch to have one of Feralpegs baskets in our friends' room when they check in.

Now we have that annual pass and winter is awfully long here. We're going to need to plan another trip. Maybe a long weekend in January or February.

And so it goes....

to convert these passes to AP's! Or at least start to budget them out for a later trip! As I was amending my signature to include my Disney trips I started to giggle   . DH and I were talking with the girls about our past trips. I find myself already thinking about planning a spring break trip. That will cover one DD's birthday (April) and mine is in May. Other DD's birthday is in June, then DH's is Oct 6. I think that 3 trips a year might pacify my need for Disney ;) I have my DD9 almost as bad as me, she thinks we need to return next month for Stitch's opening:earseek: :earseek: . Another Disolic is born!

The saddest part about the whole thread is now I am thinking to myself - "I need to get an Annual Pass"!!!!!! lol

My DM and I planned a once in a lifetime trip to WDW this past summer to take my DS (10) to see the mouse. BTW - this was my first trip to WDW in 20 yrs.

Well we loved that trip away so much (totally magical vacation) that we've become devoted Disney lovers and have planned a trip back this Dec to see the decorations and shop, so many things we wished we'd purchased and didn't last trip, but it's a great reason to go back!!!

We are also talking about a 3rd trip in a year this comming summer to use the AP before it expires.
