Years ago, my brother's teacher asked everyone in the class what their Dad's job was (Moms didn't work apparently
lol). Anyway, my Dad worked in a grain silo but when it was my brother's turn to answer, he couldn't pronounce the word silo so he said "Dad is in the asylum".
At that time, there was a free food scheme here in schools for families struggling so my brother was promptly put on the list and had free milk and rolls for a month. My mother didn't find out until a few weeks later when a teacher approached her and said she was sorry that my Dad was having mental health issues. My mother was inclined to agree with the assessment there
(and was probably impressed with the teacher's insights, lol) but she got to the bottom of it!
My cousin also benefitted on and off from the free food scheme. The teacher would ask whose father was out of work (totally insensitive too when I think of it!) and my cousin, one week would raise her hand and the next week, wouldn't. The thing is her Dad worked alternate shifts, one week nights, next week days She was just a little bit too literal and on the weeks he worked nights he wasn't physically at work when she answered the question so the hand went up and the free food was given. So she ended up doing alternate shifts with the free food
